Pakistan’s red-ball coach Jason Gillespie has come out in support of the under-pressure Shan Masood claiming that he has been doing an excellent job of captaining the side even though the side has lost a series 0-2 to Bangladesh at home. The ex cricketer from Sydney noted that for Pakistan they have not played as a team and must improve as such with the series against England in mind.

Pakistan could not stop Bangladesh from reaching to the remaining 143 runs on the fifth and final day of the second Test played at Rawalpindi and thus the series ended 2-0 in favour of Bangladesh. The six-wicket loss was the fifth for Masood in the Test as captain and up to now, he has been unable to register a victory since his elevation to the position before the tour of Australia late last year.
Responding to the reporters after the second Test match where Pakistan team has lost the match, Gillespie said that he wants to support the players regardless of the losses incurred. He said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan:He said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan:
“Shan I feel has led the side very well. We just haven’t played well as a team and that’s the reality. We need to sharpen up on certain areas and we will sharpen up. I really want to back and believe in these players, they are good enough and have shown glimpses of how good we are. We just need to do it more often and consistently,”

“We thought we were playing good cricket in Australia but not doing the job, that’s something we need to work on. It has happened four times in my tenure that we have left the team back into the contest when we were dominating,”
“274 was a good score in the first innings, me and Saim [Ayub] could have got more runs like Litton. But we should have done better from having them at 26/6. That’s something we need to work on and work on quickly,”
