Namibia vs Kenya: The Eagles Absolutely Cruise Through Their First Match With Extreme Easy

With the first match between Namibia and Kenya in the books, it looked like the Eagles were completely in control throughout, while showing their great experience of playing in big tournaments. Looking to go to their 4th straight T20I World Cup, this side started off with a massive 136-run victory and are officially near the driver’s seat of their group.

Given that their net run-rate went up by almost 6.8, all they need to do is win another match, and they’re officially in through the semi-finals. As this side is led by the Captain Gerhard Erasmus, his leadership has taken everyone by storm after getting mentored by David Wiese and really understanding the game from a very analytical approach.

On the other end, Kenya’s downfall continues, as this was once a side competing with top nations around the world and creating a few upsets. A group that keeps on finding ways to lose at the most important times, a lot of problems have occurred throughout these last couple years and continue getting worse.

After losing this match, they are far and away the lowest-ranked team amongst their competition, while still having to play a strong Nigeria side. In hopes of changing things and getting back to what they were once upon a time, Captain Dhiren Gondaria will have to heavily improve and show why this team was supposed to really be a threat coming into this tournament.

Namibia: First Innings Was Full of Power And Clash By Multiple Batsmen

Looking at Namibia during their batting innings, this group was able to put together a huge total because of the way various pieces batted today. Opener Jan Frylinck was once again on fire during powerplay overs as he scored 33 runs and showed his boundary-hitting ability by scoring 6 fours.

Someone who was highly touted before this match as well, he has continued being a key left-handed piece, while Louren Steenkamp comes in right after him. Seeing that Steenkamp was able to score play a quick-fire today, he unfortunately got out pretty early but kept the run-rate right where it should have been. Coming in at 2-down when Namibia had 49 on the board, Gerhard Erasmus came in and played a real captain’s knock.

Although Namibia were losing wickets at a quicker pace around this time, with Frylinck removed and Nicol Loftie-Eaton also removed in quick succession, there was still hope because their two best batsmen were yet to show their full ability. With Erasmus hitting a half-century today, his combination with JJ Smit went for over 120 runs and led them to a score of 166/5 before getting caught by Sukhdeep Singh.

Looking at the captain’s performance, he was able to smack three sixes and create five boundaries, while his partner in Smit, got to a century by the end of his innings. Talking specifically about Smit, he had 19 total boundaries and went at a strike of nearly 300, which helped his side cross the 240 margin.

Kenya: Bowlers Had A Day To Forget Under Heavy Pressure And Against Top Batsmen

For Kenya, their bowlers really couldn’t make anything good out of their overs, as that was a major reason for this side to allow such a mammoth score. One thing that was a problem heading into this tournament itself, it’s really not been fixed starting with Peter Langat.

Someone who allowed 62 runs during his 4 overs, it seemed like batsmen were doing whatever they wanted to him, and really moved around the crease for big shots. Seeing that Lucas Olouch, 13.00 economy, was also pretty expensive, he didn’t seem to have any command of the short ball, and also looked lost when batsmen took him on. Knowing that these two were their top two bowling options, Sachin was a key right-handed pacer who got his full overs again.

Someone who did pick up a wicket, he did get hammered pretty badly during a few deliveries and had a near-economy of 10. Not known for his ability to swing the ball, that has been a huge issue for this side since everything seems to go to straight. With Vraj Patel, 1/31 figures, showing some orthodox style prowess on the wicket he got of Nicol Loftie-Eaton, this was another bowler who had one of the days to forget after getting hammered for a few big blows. The only successful piece on this side was Dhiren Gondaria, who did remove two vital bastmen and was very economical in his limited overs, while making a spell that Vishil Patel struggled in with him much better than anticipated.

Kenya: Batting Lineup Had A Nightmare During One Of The Biggest Run Chases

Looking at Kenya’s batting order, they really had a match to forget as they didn’t look any bit competitve while chasing down 242 runs. Although they weren’t fully bowled out, the strike rates were a huge problem, starting with Pushkar Shivkumar Sharma. Someone who was batting below a rate of 50 struggled to get any boundary hitting going except one, while also having a nightmare against pace.

Captain Dhiren Gondaria did a much better job on the other side by striking at over 90, but with him being the first wicket lost, problems became bigger. With Rakeep Patel just getting removed in three balls and Sachin Bhudia failing to do a lot during his 6 deliveries, Kenya found themselves in 52/4 hole mid-way through.

Sukdeep Singh, 34-run knock, was the last hope they had of creating anything in this match since he was the only real to the Namibian bowling attack. Hitting four boundaries of his own, he did try keep a couple partnerships going and creating pressure, but then was removed by star bowler Nicole Loftie-Eaton. Down the order, Jasraj Kundi also started showing hard-hitting prowess with 17 of 16, while launching one massive six, but it was almost too late.

All-rounder Vishil Patel did not provide anything special at his 6-down position, while Lucas Olouch rounded out this batting attack by hitting a massive six in the last few overs.

Namibia: Pacers and Spinners Were On Point Today

For Namibia, their bowling attack really imposed their will today and showed how dangerous they can be during future times. With Gerhard Erasmus coming in from the left end and just allowing 11 runs in 3 overs, he showed how to control the ball and not let go to short in a location where batsmen can dominate.

Their main piece in Ben Shikongo, 1 wicket in three overs, was a major right-handed threat that continued finding the middle of Kenya’s stumps, while creating extra pressure. Although Ruben Trumpelmann didn’t have a wicket today, he was excellent in their two overs, while Nicol Lofite-Eaton, Bernard Scholtz, plus Alexander Busing-Volschenk had two each in key moments.
