MI vs SRH: Travis Head & Heinrich Klaasen Shocks MI

Travis Head & Heinrich Klaasen dazzled in Mumbai and outshone a terrific innings from Ryan Rickelton as SRH completed another record chase to upstage MI in Mumbai. Travis Head & Heinrich Klaasen were terrific in the second half of the innings. But before that, a Ryan Rickelton special where he carried his bat for his 123 powered MI to 243/5 with crucial contributions from Will Jacks, Naman Dhir, and Hardik Pandya.

In reply, the openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma set it up with a 129-run stand inside 9 overs, with Head scoring 76 and Abhishek scoring 45. Thereafter, Heinrich Klaasen stole the show with his unbeaten 65 off 30 balls under pressure, while Salil Arora’s 30* off 10 balls delivered the knockout punch for SRH against MI to help the Orange Army win by 6 wickets with 8 balls to spare to climb upwards to 3rd in the points table.

Ryan Rickelton’s masterful unbeaten ton powers MI to a massive 243/5 in 20 overs

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton came out to bat for MI while captain Pat Cummins had the ball in hand for SRH. The duo came out all guns blazing after a watchful first over. They targeted Praful Hinge, and MI played with a sense of freedom. The duo tore apart the SRH bowling, with Eshan Malinga the only one who kept things tight. But MI scored 78/0 in the first 6 overs of power play.

The duo continued after the Strategic Time Out and looked good out there. Both players were complementing each other really well. The duo put on 93 for the first wicket before Jacks fell for 46 off 22 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes to his name to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat at 3 and got off the mark with a boundary as well. Rickelton punished Reddy as well.

The duo of Rickelton and Surya added 17 runs for the second wicket before Surya once again fell cheaply for 5 off 5 balls with one four to his name to Eshan Malinga. Naman Dhir came out to the middle next. Dhir also came and played his shots, but the story was all about Rickelton as he completed his fifty as well. The duo got together and forged another important partnership. Dhir was playing second fiddle as Rickelton did the bulk of the scoring. The duo added 55 runs for the third wicket before Naman fell for 22 off 17 balls with 3 fours to his name to Praful Hinge.

Captain Hardik Pandya came back into the attack next. Rickelton soon completed his maiden IPL hundred off 44 balls, and it was a moment to savour for someone who played at the last moment due to injury to Quinton de Kock. Hardik got into the act and played a useful hand as well. He supported Rickelton as well. The duo aced the death overs phase and added 56 runs off 27 balls for the 4th wicket before Hardik fell for a useful 31 off 15 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes to his name to Sakib Hussain.

Tilak Varma came out to bat with about 11 balls to go in the innings. Tilak managed to hit a maximum away and added 11 runs for the 5th wicket before Tilak fell for 7 off 5 balls with one six to his name to Hinge. Robin Minz came out to bat next. He got off the mark straightaway.

It had to be Rickelton who finished things off in style as he hit a maximum and a boundary off the last two balls of the innings as MI reached a healthy and competitive 243/5 in 20 overs. Ryan Rickelton carried his bat and remained unbeaten on 123 off 55 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes to his name, while Robin Minz remained unbeaten on 1 off 1 ball. 8 extras given by the fielding side.

SRH had a tough outing with the ball in hand. Praful Hinge finished with 2/54 in 4 overs. Eshan Malinga was excellent with figures of 1/29 in 4 overs. Sakib Hussain finished with 1/39 in 3 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy finished with 1/31 in 2 overs. Captain Pat Cummins finished with 0/39 in 4 overs, while Harsh Dubey finished with 0/50 in 3 overs. This meant that the target for SRH was a massive 244 runs off 20 overs.

Travis Head & Heinrich Klaasen decimate MI in another big successful run chase

Chasing a massive 244 runs to win the contest, the dynamic duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head opened the batting for SRH while Trent Boult had the ball in hand for MI. It was the Abhishek Sharma-Travis Head show from the start as they had no choice but to attack the bowlers. The power play was crucial, and Abhishek started things off aggressively before Head got his eye in, rode his luck and took on MI bowlers. MI were sloppy in the field and missed out on a possible DRS against Head.

But the duo should be given credit for hammering the toothless MI attack. Even Jasprit Bumrah was taken to the cleaners. SRH outplayed MI in the power play. They outbatted them. While MI made 78/0 in 6 overs, SRH were 92/0 and were ahead of the game. The duo carried on and just took the game away from the MI team. The opening partnership laid the base for this big chase.

They put on 129 for the first wicket inside 9 overs with Abhishek Sharma falling for 45 off 24 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes to his name to Allah Ghazanfar. Ishan Kishan, the keeper-batter, came out to bat next and was cleaned up on the first ball by Ghazanfar. Heinrich Klaasen came out to bat next and got off the mark to survive the hat-trick ball. Travis Head was the show stealer, having got his half-century, and was looking good on 76 till he fell.

Just 4 runs were added to the score before Travis fell for 76 off 30 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes to his name. Nitish Kumar Reddy came out to bat next. It was a mini comeback from MI, but then Heinrich Klaasen took over. If it was the Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma show to start the chase, it was the Klaasen show till the end of the contest. Reddy was playing second fiddle and rotating the strike. Klaasen was special and timed the innings to perfection.

Reddy was doing his job as he scored 21 useful runs. Klaasen and Reddy added 80 runs for the 4th wicket before Reddy finally fell for 21 off 17 balls with 3 fours to his name to Trent Boult, who bowled a better second spell. Salil Arora came out to bat next. Klaasen continued his merry ways, but then Salil decided to deliver the knockout punch to the MI bowlers.

Bumrah was hit for a no-look maximum down the ground, and then he was the one who hit the winning runs with the maximum. The duo added 36 runs in quick time off 14 balls, with Salil hitting the maximum and remaining unbeaten on 30 off 10 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes to his name, while Klaasen was the star with his unbeaten 65 off 30 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes to his name. 12 extras given by the fielding side as SRH finished with 249/4 in 18.4 overs.

It was a hard night for the Mumbai Indians bowlers as well. Allah Ghazanfar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/51 in 4 overs. Trent Boult finished with 1/41 in 4 overs. Hardik Pandya, the captain, finished with 1/39 in 3.4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah bowled 4 overs for 54 runs. Will Jacks bowled an over for 19 runs. Ashwani Kumar bowled 2 overs for 41 runs. So, SRH win this contest by 6 wickets with 8 balls to spare to climb to 3rd in the points table. Heinrich Klaasen was awarded the Player of the Match Award.

What Lies Ahead

So, MI loses another game in IPL 2026. They next face CSK on Saturday night in Chennai, while SRH will play KKR on Sunday Afternoon in Hyderabad. Next in IPL 2026 will be the clash between GT and RCB in Ahmedabad. Crucial game for both teams, more so for GT than RCB. Let’s see how the game pans out in Ahmedabad.
