MI batting coach Kieron Pollard reminded everyone of his early prediction for Rohit Sharma after the Indian opener returned to form in IPL 2025. Rohit Sharma scored back-to-back fifties to regain his batting rhythm in the tournament after struggling in the initial phase of the tournament.
Rohit Sharma’s career stats and current form in IPL 2025
Rohit Sharma has played 265 IPL matches and has scored 6,856 runs, with an average of 29.81. He has hit two centuries and 45 half-centuries in his IPL career. His highest score is 109*. He has a strike rate of 131.80. Rohit is among the top run-scorers in IPL history. In a remarkable achievement, Rohit Sharma, the opening batsman for Mumbai Indians (MI), became the second Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli to score 12,000 runs in T20 cricket.
This milestone was reached during the IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rohit Sharma’s achievement places him among the elite group of cricketers who have scored over 12,000 runs in the shortest format of the game, making him the eighth batter overall to do so. Rohit Sharma’s consistency and leadership have made him a key player for MI, and his contribution has played a pivotal role in his team’s success over the years.
During the time when Rohit Sharma was struggling, Pollard reminded everyone that one day everyone would be singing the MI legend’s praises. Speaking at the press conference before the LSG game, the MI coach said that the team always had the belief that Rohit Sharma would come good for the team.
We are singing Rohit Sharma’s praises- Kieron Pollard
Mumbai Indians (MI) batting coach Kieron Pollard is ecstatic that his prediction on Rohit Sharma’s form and his run-scoring ability has proven to be right. Rohit Sharma has turned his season around with back-to-back 70s in his last two innings, both coming in comfortable wins for MI. But it was hardly this rosy at the start of IPL 2025 for the former MI captain.
Rohit Sharma had managed just 82 runs in his first six innings and was also struggling with an injury which forced him to miss a game. It was around this time that Pollard was grilled about the form of MI’s most experienced player. He had at the time said that Rohit should not be judged by a couple of low scores and that he would bounce back. As it turns out, Pollard’s prediction has come true.
“If my memory serves me right, at the start of this competition, that question was different. I said sitting right here, we are also going to be singing his praises as an individual,” Pollard said when asked about Rohit’s surge in form.
“For us, we always had that belief that he is going to come good.
“There are dips. There is low confidence. But for someone who has played this sport for a long time, you have these moments. Sometimes you just need that extra support from people. Now we are singing his praises. We are all very happy in the Mumbai dressing room. We were happy at the start as well, knowing that it is going to happen, and long may it continue.
“The headlines are going to be about that. But for us, in our entire batting unit, we look for guys to perform at different junctures in a tournament. We are not going to individualise it.”
MI had a torrid run at the start of the season, losing four of their first five games. Since then, though they are on a four-game winning spree. It is not the first time that MI’s season has started slowly before they’ve picked up pace. Pollard feels it’s just down to some teams gelling faster, while some teams taking time. He also feels MI have now “found a sort of a method” which is working for them. Having now won 4 matches on the trot, Mumbai Indians now aim to keep the winning kick alive with yet another win when they meet LSG on 27th.
