MI in eliminator
MI has played in four eliminators so far ( 2012, 2014, 2023, 2025 ). They have won 2 and lost 2. They have lost 2 matches while chasing ( 2012 & 2014 ) and won 2 matches ( 2023 and 2025 ) whole defending the target.
MI have never lost in Eliminator while defending the target. Also, they have lost both the eliminators to CSK. So, CSK remain the only team to beat MI in the eliminator. GT lost to MI in the eliminator. This is their 3rd defeat in the playoffs. The previous 2 defeats came in the 2023 against CSK in Qualifier 1 and Final.
MI became the second team after CSK to beat GT in the playoffs. GT has played in 6 playoffs matches, and won 3 of them and lost three.
Captain Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya became the only captain to win a title for a franchise as a captain and beat the same team in the knockouts. Hardik Pandya captained GT in their first season in 2022, and led them to the title. Yesterday, he captained for MI against the same team and eliminated them.
Shubman Gill’s Failure
Shubman Gill was dismissed for just 1 run by Trent Boult in the first over. Shubman Gill has played 11 matches in the IPL Playoffs and scored 475 runs. This is the first time he has been dismissed below 25 runs in the playoffs. A rare failure for him.
Shubman Gill was the main reason behind eliminating MI in the Qualifier 2 in 2023 by scoring 129 runs off 60 balls which helped GT to post a huge total of 233/3 which is still the highest score in IPL playoffs. MI gave a perfect reply to that by scoring the second highest total in playoffs ( 228/5 ) and defendant the total by dismissing Gill in the first over.
