Lucknow Super Giants debuted in IPL 2022, many star players were part of the team like KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Krunal Pandya. Owner Sanjiv Goenka also included Gautam Gambhir as their mentor and Andy Flower as their head coach. LSG is the most costliest franchise in IPL with 7090 crores which is immense even in the history of franchise cricket.

However, the team couldn’t reach to finals but qualified for playoffs twice. The team had a great IPL, but later, Gautam Gambhir parted ways with Lucknow Super Giants and joined Kolkata Knight Riders. All of a sudden, LSG now has got a new mentor in the form of speedster Zaheer Khan who has previous experience of working closely with IPL franchises like MI & DC.

Sanjiv Goenka speaks about Gautam Gambhir

Just two-three days ago Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka held a press conference in which he announced their team’s new mentor former Indian bowler and World Cup winner Zaheer Khan, since there were speculations around the media regarding Zaheer Khan’s inclusion and then it officially happened. Sanjiv Goenka said:

“Gautam has played a significant role in building the side’s foundation. If you consider our first auction successful, it is only because of Gautam. We got the franchise barely two weeks before the auctions. We did not have an analyst or a research team. It was all Gautam Gambhir’s team. He did everything and put together a very balanced team.

“Everyone has specific roles, and Gautam played his part exceptionally well,” the Lucknow Super Giants owner added.

Also, rumors were saying that KL Rahul might get released by Lucknow Super Giants, also Sanjiv Goenka clarified all the reports in the conference, Sanjiv Goenka said:

“I have been meeting KL on and off regularly over the last three years. Frankly, I am surprised this meeting is getting a lot of attention [in the media]. He is integral (to LSG).

“He has been here since the inception. For me and for (my son) Shashwat Goenka, (who is also involved in running LSG), he is like family.”

Zaheer Khan was the Director of Cricket Operations for Mumbai Indians for many years but now he is in a new role can he turn the fortunes for Lucknow Super Giants?
