The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is poised to resume on May 17, 2025, after a week-long suspension prompted by heightened geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, which led to a security incident and the departure of several overseas players. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the revised schedule on May 12, 2025, outlining 17 matches to be played across six venues: Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, with the tournament set to conclude on June 3, 2025.
IPL 2025 resumes on 17 May with intense clashes
The IPL will restart with a high-profile match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 17 at 7:30 PM IST. The revised schedule comprises 13 league matches, including two double-header Sundays.
On May 18, Rajasthan Royals will face Punjab Kings in Jaipur at 3:30 PM IST, followed by Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Titans in Delhi at 7:30 PM IST. Another double-header on May 25 will feature Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad and SunRisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi.
A key highlight is the rescheduled Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match, originally halted on May 8 in Dharamsala at 71/4 after 10.1 overs due to a security breach. This match will resume on May 24 in Jaipur, maintaining the tournament’s competitive flow. Other notable matches include Lucknow Super Giants vs SunRisers Hyderabad on May 19 in Lucknow, Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals on May 20 in Delhi, and Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals on May 21 in Mumbai.
The league stage will conclude on May 27 with Lucknow Super Giants facing RCB in Lucknow. The playoffs are scheduled to begin on May 29 with Qualifier 1, followed by the Eliminator on May 30, Qualifier 2 on June 1, and the final on June 3. While the six venues will host league matches, the BCCI has yet to confirm playoff venues, keeping fans in anticipation.
The suspension followed a challenging period marked by a security incident during the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match and subsequent border tensions, which prompted several overseas players to leave. The BCCI’s swift response, facilitated by a ceasefire, has enabled the tournament’s resumption, with careful consideration for player safety and preparation for the World Test Championship Final on June 11, 2025, particularly for players from Australia and South Africa.
There is a minor discrepancy in the reported number of matches, with one source suggesting 16 matches, possibly excluding the rescheduled game, but the official count of 17 matches—13 league matches, including the replay, and 4 playoff matches—is widely supported. The full schedule is available on the Official IPL Website.

The revised schedule includes matches at neutral venues, such as Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals in Delhi and Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians in Jaipur, to accommodate logistical needs. The BCCI’s efforts ensure a safe and exciting conclusion to IPL 2025, with teams competing fiercely for playoff spots and the prestigious IPL trophy.
