Mumbai Indians have signed allrounder Corbin Bosch as a replacement for fellow South African Lizaad Williams, who has been ruled out of IPL 2025 with injury. Mumbai Indians have roped in South African bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch as a replacement for his compatriot Lizaad Williams, who will miss the upcoming IPL 2025 due to a knee injury.
Mumbai Indians new signing Corbin Bosch finds himself in a unique spot as the South African all-rounder has signed up for Indian Premier League 2025 and Pakistan Super League 2025. Bosch was brought in as a replacement for the injured Lizaad Williams on Saturday, March 8. Lizaad Williams had missed the SA20 in January this year with the same injury and hasn’t recovered yet fully to turn out for the five-time champions in the IPL. He had been snapped up by MI for his base price of INR 75 Lakh.
Corbin Bosch career A glimpse
Corbin Bosch, a bowling allrounder, is yet to make his IPL debut, but has been part of Rajasthan Royals in the past as a reserve player. Bosch, 30, though is familiar with the MI franchise, having been part of their title-winning SA20 side, MI Cape Town, in February earlier this year. He took 11 wickets in seven innings at an economy rate of 8.68 in MICT’s run to their maiden SA20 title.
Corbin Bosch will reunite with his SA20 team-mate Ryan Rickelton at Mumbai Indians. He will slot in as the third seam-bowling allrounder at MI behind captain Hardik Pandya and Raj Bawa. He was a diamond pick by Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2025 at the draft that was held in January, but will now have to forgo that deal to participate in the IPL. Starting this year, the PSL will be played in an April-May window, clashing with the IPL.
Corbin Bosch has also been part of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and now-defunct Mzansi Super League (MSL). He can float in the batting line-up – he even batted at No.3 for Barbados Royals in CPL 2022 – and bowl at the death too. Overall, Corbin Bosch has played 86 T20s so far, taking 59 wickets at an economy rate of 8.38 to go with 663 runs at a strike rate of 113.33.
An IPL deal with MI has added to his recent success. In the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan in Centurion, Corbin Bosch became the first South Africa player to take a four-wicket haul and make a fifty-plus score on debut. Corbin Bosch’s all-round effort helped South Africa confirm their place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be held at Lord’s in June later this year.
After winning the SA20, Corbin Bosch also made South Africa’s Champions Trophy squad as an injury replacement but ended up playing just a warm-up fixture in Karachi. As for Williams, he is the second MI player to be sidelined from the upcoming season after Afghanistan’s mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar, who is nursing a back injury.
Corbin Bosch replaces injured Lizaad Williams at Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025
Corbin Bosch, who had gone unsold during the mega auction, now joins a familiar setup after representing MI Cape Town in this year’s SA20, returning 11 wickets in eight games, including figures of 4 for 19 against Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Bosch was also picked in the recent PSL Draft by Peshawar Zalmi for the 2025 season, which will run from April 11 to May 18, while the IPL season will go on from March 22 to May 25.
This will not be Corbin Bosch’s first IPL gig. He was previously roped in by Rajasthan Royals as a net bowler before being signed on as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile. He however, hasn’t got a game in the league as yet.
At the international level, Corbin Bosch made his Test debut in the Boxing Day fixture of 2024 against Pakistan in Centurion, just days after his 50-over bow against the same opposition in Johannesburg. He was also called up as the replacement for the injured Anrich Nortje in South Africa’s squad for the Champions Trophy.
Corbin Bosch was part of the title-winning MI Cape Town side that won the SA20 title and picked up 11 wickets during the campaign. The all-rounder made his debut for South Africa in 2024.
“Corbin Bosch will join the squad as Lizaad Williams is set to miss the rest of the season. A right-arm fast bowler and right-handed middle-order batter, Corbin has played 86 T20 having taken 59 wickets and a batting high score of 81.
Corbin was a part of the victorious Proteas’ U-19 side that lifted the World Cup in 2014 and was also the player of the match in the finals producing a magnificent spell of 4/15. He has been a regular across formats for his domestic team and made his debut for Proteas in 2024.”
“Corbin played a key role in MI Cape Town’s title-winning 2025 season in SA20 picking 11 wickets in the title winning campaign,” read the statement from Mumbai Indians.
Corbin Bosch’s IPL-PSL conundrum
However, Corbin Bosch finds himself in a tough spot. The all-rounder is also signed up for the PSL, which will take place during the IPL 2025 season.
The PSL is all set to start from April 11 and run until May 18. IPL 2025, meanwhile, will begin on March 22 and the final will be played on May 25. This means that Bosch will have to choose between playing in one of the leagues. Corbin Bosch is part of the Peshawar Zalmi squad for the 2025 season.
Corbin Bosch is the second replacement player signed by MI ahead of the new season as they roped in Mujeeb Ur Rahman for the injured Allah Ghazanfar.
