The former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said he saw no chinks in Bumrah armour after the bowler excelled on the second day of the final Test versus Bangladesh in Chennai. Manjrekar further said that India is very lucky to have a bowler like Bumrah in its kitty.
India’s Dominant Display: Bumrah Stars as Bangladesh Falters
India once again ruled the roost on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday September 20. Extending their first innings total of 339 for six wickets, they were all out for 376. Bumrah then took four for 50 in 11 overs as Bangladesh were dismissed for 149 in 47.1 overs. The Caribbeans reached stumps at Chepauk on the second day at 81-3, and had a lead well in excess of 300.
Speaking about Bumrah’s show on Friday, in Chennai Manjrekar admitted he found himself a little lacking words to describe the Indian fast bowler. He told ESPNcricinfo:
“We all know about his variations, his thinking – one of the sharpest thinking fast bowlers. We saw a certain amount of meanness as well in the way he bowled to Taskin. But the one thing that came through today was that he is a bowler without a weakness – whatever the opposition, pitch conditions and that’s actually the best way to judge greatness,”
“You don’t see any weakness at all in this guy. Indian cricket is so fortunate to have him in their side,” the 59-year-old former India batter went on to add.
Bumrah Strikes Early: Shadman Islam Departed for a Duck
In Bangladesh first innings Bumrah got the first to fall in Bangladesh team. He clean bowled opener Shadman Islam (2) from round the wicket which the batter missed while he decide to leave the delivery as it came in with the angle.
The right-arm pacer bowled a superb outswinger cutting away to drop Mushfiqur Rahim (8) caught at second slip. The Indian pacer then got a bit lucky as Hasan Mahmud nicked one to the wicketkeeper (9) before he bowled a perfect yorker to Taskin Ahmed (11) to finish the over.
Bumrah Reaches 400-Club: Indian Pacer Achieves Major Milestone
Besides having the four wickets to his credit, Bumrah joined the list of Indian bowlers to have claimed 400 wickets across international formats. He got there with Mahmud’s wicket; the batsman becoming his third scalp of the innings.
Ahmedabad born pacer is now only the sixth Indian fast bowler to take 400 plus international wickets to join company of Kapil Dev 687, Zaheer Khan 610, Javagal Srinath 551, Mohammed Shami 448, Ishant Sharma 434.
