Pakistan are currently facing issues after a shocking exit from T20 World Cup 2024, they lost to USA and India, post World Cup many incidents took place like Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz were sacked by PCB from selection committee.
PCB Chairman had insisted that this team needs a surgery but nothing changes or plans have been executed, will Babar Azam continue as captain or will resign? Its still a suspense.
Salman Butt want Shan Masood to lead the team
After a pathetic campaign of 2024 PCB took some harsh steps till now they sacked Abdul and Wahab from their positions but nothing such action is taken on Babar Azam whether he will continue or will resign. Seems like PCB don’t wan’t Babar to step down as captain there could be some other reasons too but this will impact on team and 2025 Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan which will be a great chance for them to defend the title.
If all such dramas need to be stopped then some changes should be there, under Babar Azam team haven’t perform well though they remained runners-up in T20 World Cup 2022 but since then they haven’t played up to the mark. Former Pakistan player Salman Butt want Shan Masood to lead the team as captain is also the player but additional responsibility doesn’t mean team should perform below average, Babar Azam was good player when he started as a player later he was appointed as captain and then his downfall started and couldn’t perform well, captaincy is not just a responsibility but its a leadership role which turns out after a legacy is formed. Babar Azam don’t have that confidence that he could lead the team properly and some reports were saying that team is divided into two and have no co-opreation from anyone this shows they lack in everything. Salman Butt said:
“There is some fuss because of which despite having skill, players haven’t been able to execute. There is someone who doesn’t have any strategy for planning, but still has a lot of attitude. To silence that attitude, I would definitely make Shan Masood the captain.”
“I would do that for some time at least. Something like that needs to be done for some time. Pakistan have constantly backed certain players who have their own inner circles. So, you need someone who stands higher than all these groups and friendships.”
PCB still rely on Babar Azam only, although there is no official statement yet but they might stick to Babar Azam only and will go with the flow.
