Aakash Chopra has also said that one of the ignoble‘s accomplishments of Rohit Sharma which he did during his tenure of India’s T20I captain is lovable nature. He also praised the opener for his talent of making big scores with the bat in the match.
T20 World Cup Victory: A New Chapter in Rohit’s Legacy
The Men in Blue, led by Rohit going into the tournament, clinched the 2024 T20 World Cup thrashing South Africa by 7 runs in the final in Barbados on Saturday, 29 June. He decided to quit the shortest format of the game for England and the Twenty20 Internationals at the age of 37 after lifting the trophy.
Chopra while analyzing a match on his YouTube channel said that Rohit will be known as one of the successful and non aggressive captain.
“He has five IPL trophies. He won a Champions League and has bid goodbye to T20I cricket with a T20 World Cup win. He has left a captaincy legacy. It will be remembered because only three Indians have lifted the World Cup trophy – Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni with two trophies, and one for Rohit Sharma. It will be remembered for centuries that Rohit Sharma was the captain who won the 2024 T20 World Cup,” he said (3:15).
“Why is his captaincy so good? It’s because he creates an atmosphere like that. Whoever you speak to says Rohit bhaiya is a very good captain. I have not come across a single person who says Rohit is not a good guy. I cannot say that for everyone but can say that for Rohit. Everybody who I have spoken to praises him. He is 24-carat pure gold,” the former India opener added.
Rohit’s Unbeaten Run: Captaincy Record and Historic Victory in T20 World Cup
Rohit Sharma has the captaincy record of leading India in 62 T20Is out of which India emerged victorious in 50 matches including the Super Over against Afghanistan. He also created a new record of most wins for any skipper in T20Is; the Men in Blue also wrote history by becoming the first team to win a T20 World Cup without losing a match.
A Perfect Fit: Rohit’s T20I Batting Style and its Impact
My take on Rohit Sharma as a T20I batsman: This Mumbaikar suited the format to the T as Aakash Chopra also said at some point. The ex-cricketer clearly enjoyed the physical approach of Rohit and how easily the large sixes were struck. Chopra went on the say that Hitman as he was infamously known, made games one sided almost every time he got a good score.
Rohit scored as many as 4231 runs with a stupendous strike rate of 140. 89 times when 151 T20I innings are considered. It is quite evident that when the Indian cricketer was at crease he rarely lost the game for his team, India lost only four of the 37 matches that he scored a fifty.
