Barbados: This T20 World Cup win is even more special for two generations of Indian cricket — Rohit Sharma, who played his final T20I for India on Saturday, and Kohli. This was a heart-to-heart moment for both as the two have been instrumental for the national team in the game format for some time now. For the T20Is, Virat was the leader before he relinquished the position in the year 2021. Rohit then replaced him who also proved to be quite successful for the Indian team in the same post. Following the defeat in the 2022 World Cup T20I semi final both Rohit and Virat did not play T20I cricket in the following year and it was Hardik Pandya who captained the team. They again shifted to the format and Rohit along with Virat Captain, however, Rohit gave his place to Vijay Shankar.

Apparently, the retirement from format has made a huge TRA resource in the T20I team of India now. But a bigger issue is in store to the management as to who is going to head the team after him. Among them, Hardik, who has delivered good results for India in T20Is in terms of captaincy, whether in Indian Premier League or International cricket, seems to be on the top priority.
However, when probed on what he expects to do in the next few years given that there is another T20 World Cup scheduled for 2026, he chose to tread lightly on it.
