In Match 3 of the tournament in Mumbai, Shadley van Schalkwyk put on a show as he picked up 3 wickets in an over which was the last over of powerplay to rock India. India lost Abhishek Sharma early but Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan were going well and building a partnership of note after the early dismissal and took the score to 45/1 in 5.1 overs. USA were tight on the field and they did their job well.
Shadley had other ideas as he broke through Indian hearts as USA were finding it easy out there. All top players were dismissed one after another and India now with all to do in their opening match of their title defence.

India were 44/1 in 5 overs when Tilak took a single off the first ball. Then Shadley struck as he got rid of Ishan Kisjan for 20 off 16 balls with one four and 2 sixes to his name. It was a well-planned ball that did the trick for him and USA. Shadley bowled the slower ball full and outside the off-stump with the keeper standing up to the stumps. Kishan lunged forward to the pitch of the ball and smashed the drive to mid-off. He hit it flat and it was travelling a bit. Miling Kumar took a fine catch and tumbled to his right to complete the dismissal.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat next after Drinks break. Surya got off the mark off the second ball of the innings. Shadley then got another wicket as he dismissed the dangerous and in-form Tilak Varma for 25 off 16 balls with 3 fours and one six to his name. Shadley bowled a short of a length delivery outside the off-stump. Tilak stood tall and looked to pull it over the midwicket region. But the ball got big on him and he stroke it off the splice of the bat. The ball looped straight to the short midwicket fielder. Captain Monank Patel came out to bat next.
Shivam Dube came out to bat and he fell first ball for a golden duck. Dube’s promotion proves to be the wrong one as well. Shadley bowled a short of a length on the leg and middle stump line into the pitch way too slower than Dube expected it to be. He was way too early for the pull shot and checked his shot at the last second. He got a top edge that shot up towards short fine leg. Saurabh Netravalkar hooped back and took a safe catch at the edge of the 30-yard circle. 3 wickets in the over and India were in tatters at 46/4 in 6 overs.
Rinku Singh came in there and hung in there for a while. But India not out of the woods now as USA has dominated the proceedings so far. India with all to do in the next phase of the innings.
Harmeet Singh dismisses Hardik Pandya to let India sink further
India tried to forge a partnership but soon they lost Rinku Singh and then at 77/5 they lost Hardik Pandya to Harmeet Singh. Harmeet bowled a short of a length outside the off-stump that turned away a touch and that put Pandya off. He backed away and looked to cut it and up and over deep cover point but failed to time it as the ball went straight to the man in the deep. Saiteja Mukkamella took a fine catch near the ropes. India were now 77/6 in 12.4 overs.
What Lies Ahead
So, India has a lot of thinking to do and come back in the contest. All eyes on captain Surya to rescue India but he needs support. USA can keep India down to 140 now from here and that will be a below par score. It’s been all USA in Mumbai and the crowd is stunned silent as the crowds are in disbelief.
