ICC T20 WC 2026: India Hit Back With 3 Wickets Inside the Powerplay.

India managed to recover from a precarious position thanks to a special innings from captain Suryakumar Yadav to post a competitive 161/9 in 20 overs on a sporting track. It meant that India had something to bowl at provided they bowl well but were also without their ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah. But India stuck to their strengths and got their rewards.

Andries Gous and Saiteja Mukkamalla came out to open for USA while Arshdeep Singh had the new ball in hand for India. He bowled a tight first over to set the tone. Mohammed Siraj the player put in as replacement player and in XI in place of Bumrah came to bowl the second over. He was launched for the maximum by Gous over long-on but the heart of the man meant he came back roaring.

USA had reached 8 runs in 1.3 overs when Siraj came to bowl the 4th ball of the over to Gous and he got his man. Siraj bowled a good length delivery outside the off-stump line. Gous hung back and punched it from the middle of the bat but failed to keep it down. The ball went straight into the hands of the point fielder as Tilak Varma made no mistake and took a low catch inches from the ground as Gous fell for 6 off 9 balls. Captain Monank Patel came into the crease next.

But Monank did not last long as he fell in the very next over bowled by Arshdeep Singh.

USA were 11/1 in 2 overs when Arshdeep Singh continued and he got rid of USA’s captain Monank Patel for a silver duck. Arshdeep bowled from over the wicket a fuller delivery down the leg side that swung away a touch. Monank Patel looked to flick it away but closed the bat face too early and got a leading edge that went up in the air. Shivam Dube settled underneath it and took a simple catch at the edge of the circle.

Milind Kumar came out to bat next and got off the mark as well. USA were trying to build up another partnership but India struck again in the powerplay as Siraj removed Saiteja Mukkamalla for a low score.

USA reached 13/2 in 3.1 overs when Siraj in his second over got rid of Saiteja Mukkamalla for 2 off 7 balls as India got 3 inside the powerplay. Siraj bowled a good length delivery around the off-stump that nipped back in and at pace. Mukkamalla looked to flick it away but failed to keep it down and chipped it straight to Varun Chakaravarthy who made no mistake inside the circle as USA were 13/3 in 3.2 overs.

Sanjay Krishnamurthi came out to bat next and got off the mark as well. The duo forged a partnership to get the team out of trouble between Sanjay and Milind. Milind managed to get a boundary away off the left-armer. He got another boundary away off Siraj as well with USA going at the end of the powerplay to 31/3 in 6 overs.

What Lies Ahead. 

USA is in need of a partnership and taking the game deep from here. India have started well and will look to rip through USA in the middle phase of the innings. USA needs these two to lay the platform for the others to launch later. India with the advantage yes, but should not be complacent from this juncture as anything can happen from here.
