ICC T20 WC 2026: David Miller’s Brilliant Knock Powers South Africa To 187/7.

David Miller came out to the middle when South Africa were in trouble but played a gem of an innings. A counter-attacking innings from Miller allowed South Africa to recover from a precarious position with Dewald Brevis, and Tristan Stubbs playing important contributions. For India, Jasprit Bumrah picked up 3 wickets while Arshdeep Singh bowled well for his 2 wickets. India with all to in the run chase.

Jasprit Bumrah’s double strike rattles South Africa inside the powerplay. 

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, captain Aiden Markram and keeper batter Quinton de Kock opened the batting for South Africa while Arshdeep Singh had ball in hand for India. Arshdeep bowled a good first over. Jasprit Bumrah had ball in hand from the other end as Quinton used his wrists and sliced it away to deep point for a boundary. But Bumrah hit back and got rid of de Kock for 6 off 7 balls with a boundary to his name as he was knocked over. Ryan Rickelton came out to bat next.

Arshdeep continued and he struck for India as he removed the dangerous Markram for 4 off 7 balls as the ball chipped to mid-off. Dewald Brevis came out to bat next and got off the mark. Rickelton swivelled and pulled it away over deep backward square leg for the maximum. Bumrah continued and deceived Rickelton with a slower ball as Rickelton chipped it to the mid-off fielder for 7 off 7 balls with a maximum to his name. David Miller came out to bat next.

Varun Chakaravarthy came into the attack in the powerplay as Miller got an outside edge that beat first slip and away to the third man fence. Miller then got underneath it and lofted over mid-off for a boundary. Arshdeep Singh came back to bowl the last over of powerplay. Miller took on Arshdeep and pulled it away to the deep midwicket fence. Miller punched the ball to the right of mid-off for a boundary, South Africa reached 41/3 in 6 overs with Miller unbeaten on 18 off 10 balls and Brevis unbeaten on 4 off 5 balls when we paused for Drinks as well.

Washington Sundar came into the attack post the powerplay while Brevis hung back and slapped it to the right of deep cover for a boundary. Miller then made room and drilled it to the right of long-off for a boundary. The 50 came up for South Africa in 7 overs. Hardik Pandya came into the attack next and bowled a decent first over. Varun came back into the attack. Miller took on Varun and swung it away over deep midwicket for the maximum.

Brevis then took on Varun and cut it away past deep point for a boundary. Brevis then smashed Varun again by going down the ground for the maximum. Hardik continued to bowl the 10th over. He bowled well but overstepped and then the free hit was dealt with as Miller picked it up and deposited the ball over cow corner for the maximum. South Africa were 84/3 in 10 overs at the halfway stage of the contest.

Shivam Dube came into the attack next. Brevis took him on by slapping the ball down the ground for a boundary towards long-off. Brevis then took on Dube as he heaved it down the ground over long-on for the maximum. Varun Chakaravarthy came back into the attack as the 100 came up for South Africa in 11.1 overs. Miller then smashed Varun through extra covers for a boundary.

Dube continued as Brevis took him on by lofting the ball straight down the ground over long-off for the maximum. Dube hit back finally and broke the 97-run stand as he removed the dangerous Brevis for 45 off 29 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes to his name as the catch was taken at midwicket region. Tristan Stubbs came out to bat next and got off the mark as well. Dube overstepped and then Miller launched the bowler inside out over covers for the maximum. Miller got to a well deserved fifty in 26 balls.

Washington Sundar came back into the attack and he bowled a decent over. South Africa reached 134/4 in 14 overs when we again paused for the Drinks Break. Hardik Pandya came back into the attack to bowl the 15th over. Miller was on a roll as he played it late after staying leg side of the ball as the ball was steered between the keeper and short third man for a boundary. At the completion of 15 overs, South Africa were 144/4 with Stubbs unbeaten on 10 off 9 balls while Miller was unbeaten on 62 off 33 balls.

Late order hitting from Tristan Stubbs takes South Africa to a competitive 187/7. 

Varun Chakaravarthy came to bowl the 15th over of the innings as Stubbs took him on and launched it down the ground straight over long-on for the maximum. The 150 came up for South Africa in 15.2 overs. Varun finally got a wicket to his name as he dismissed the dangerous Miller for 63 off 35 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes to his name as India needed this wicket. Marco Jansen came out to bat next.

Bumrah returned and bowled another probing over. Arshdeep Singh came to bowl his final over. He dismissed Jansen for 2 off 6 balls with a catch in the deep. Corbin Bosch came out to bat next. Bosch pulled the ball in front of square for a boundary. Bumrah came to bowl the 19th over and he dismissed Bosch for 5 off 6 balls with a boundary to his name caught and bowled to Bumrah. Kagiso Rabada came out to bat next.

Hardik came to bowl the final over of the innings as Stubbs pulled the ball behind square on the leg side for a boundary. Stubbs then tore apart Pandya by going big down the ground over long-on for the maximum and then dragged the pull over deep backward square leg for the maximum. South Africa finished with a brilliant 187/7 in 20 overs with Stubbs unbeaten on 44 off 24 balls with one four and three sixes to his name while Rabada was unbeaten on 0 off 1 ball. 11 extras given by the fielding side.

Indian bowlers had a mixed day in the field. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/15 in 4 overs. Arshdeep Singh finished with 2/28 in 4 overs. Varun Chakaravarthy finished with 1/47 in 4 overs. Shivam Dube bowled 2 overs 1/32. Washington Sundar finished with 0/17 in 2 overs. Hardik Pandya went for 45 runs in 4 overs. So, the target for India is a stiff 188 runs to win the contest.

Who’s Winning, India or South Africa? 

South Africa have got the runs on the board. 187 is a good score and they have one feels 10 runs above par. India has to bat out of their skins while South Africa will need to take early wickets to put more misery on the Indians. Advantage South Africa for sure at the interval one feels at this stage.
