In a Group D clash in Ahmedabad, Aiden Markram was quick off the blocks and came out all guns blazing. He was the aggressor while others played second fiddle as the Proteas got the best possible start in this match. Chasing 176 for the win, Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock opened the batting for South Africa while Matt Henry had ball in hand for New Zealand. Markram made his intentions clear as he drove on the up towards the point fielder for a boundary. Markram again drove on the up through extra covers for a boundary. Quinton joined in the fun and went straight down the ground for a boundary. Lockie Ferguson came into the attack next.
Markram welcomed Ferguson by pumping the ball over extra covers for the maximum. Markram edged it away by getting it away to the third man fence. de Kock drove on the up through extra covers for a boundary. Jacob Duffy came into the attack next. Markram lofted it away down the ground over long-on for the maximum. Markram went big again as he pummelled it away over long-on for the maximum. Markram got an outside edge that went to the third man fence. Markram flicked the ball away to the fine leg fence.
Henry continued as Quinton pulled it away past deep backward point for a boundary. Quinton then hooked it away over backward square leg for the maximum. Lockie Ferguson came back into the attack. Lockie broke the partnership as he dismissed de Kock for 20 off 14 balls with 3 fours and one six to his name. Fuller length ball at the leg stump line. Quinton shuffled across to the off-side as pace was taken off the ball. He looked to flick it away and missed as the ball clattered the stumps. Ryan Rickelton came out to bat next.
Rickelton got off the mark as Markram drove on the up through the covers for a boundary. Duffy continued to bowl in the powerplay. Rickelton elevated himself by flicking his wrists to slap it past mid-off for a boundary. Rickelton smashed the ball down the ground for a boundary. Rickelton made merry as he clobbered the bowler for the maximum. At the end of the powerplay, South Africa were 83/1 in 6 overs with Markram unbeaten on 45 off 16 balls and Rickelton unbeaten on 16 off 6 balls.

Mitchell Santner came into the attack post the powerplay. Markram took him on by going straight over the bowler’s head for the maximum. Markram got to his fifty in 19 balls. Jimmy Neesham came into the attack next. Markram showed his class as he opened the bat face to guide it down to deep third man fence. The 100 came up for South Africa in 7.2 overs. Neesham against the run of play got rid of Rickelton for 21 off 11 balls with 2 fours and 1 six to his name.
Neesham bowled full and outside the off-stump. Rickelton looked to loft it down the ground towards long-on. Mitchell timed his jump to perfection and took a blinder of a catch. Dewald Brevis came out to bat next and got off the mark with a boundary with a pull over deep midwicket for a boundary. Santner continued and bowled a decent over. Neesham continued and bowled a decent over. South Africa reached 119/2 in 10 overs with Markram unbeaten on 64 off 26 balls and Brevis unbeaten on 11 off 9 balls.

Aiden Markram has played a blistering knock and has almost won the game in the first 10 overs. There is no way back for New Zealand as the required rate is under control.
