ICC Champions Trophy 2025 : Mohsin Khan’s Shocking Statement On Virat Kohli- Babar Azam Comparison

Ex-Pakistan coach Mohsin Khan dropped a huge statement while comparing Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. Despite Pakistan and Babar’s poor performance, former Pakistan coach and player Mohsin Khan made a huge statement on the batter and compared him to Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli hit the match-winning four vs Pakistan, which also got him to his 51st ODI hundred.

In an interaction with ARY News, Mohsin Khan said that as a cricketer, Babar Azam is far superior to Virat Kohli. In fact, he called the star India batter as a big zero in front of the ex-Pakistan captain. However, he also heavily criticized the lack of planning and accountability in Pakistan cricket at the moment.

Babar Azam’s disastrous Champions Trophy 2025 and Pakistan’s early exit in the tournament

Babar Azam faced plenty of criticism after Pakistan’s humiliating exit from the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. Having been selected as hosts, Pakistan were knocked out early after back-to-back defeats to New Zealand and India, and then their match against Bangladesh got washed-out.

Against New Zealand, Babar was criticised for his ultra-slow half-century, and he failed to make an impact against India. He ended the tournament with 87 runs in two matches. Babar Azam’s performance in the tournament was quite underwhelming. He scored a scratchy half-century in the game against New Zealand and got dismissed cheaply against the arch-rivals. He has also lost his number-one ranking in the ODI format, which now belongs to upcoming opening batter Shubman Gill.

Pakistan had a disastrous campaign at home in the Champions Trophy 2025. They were knocked out of the group stages after without a win. Their star batter Babar Azam did not have an impressive campaign at all. He scored 64 in the first match vs New Zealand, but it came off 90 balls in a run-chase of 321. Against India, he got out after scoring just 23.

Virat Kohli’s scores his 51st hundred vs Pakistan to guide India to win

Virat Kohli scored his 51st century against Pakistan. Virat Kohli’s brilliant unbeaten 100, his 51st century in ODIs, was a match-winning knock that guided India to a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy clash in Dubai on Sunday.

Virat Kohli’s incredible century guided India towards dominant six-wicket win against Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With this knock Kohli etched his name in history by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record as the fastest player to reach 14,000 runs. He also became the fastest player to cross the 9,000, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000 and 13,000 runs milestone.

En route his century in his 299th 50-over appearance, Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 14,000 ODI runs, joining the elite group of Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 in 452 innings) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234 in 380 innings).  On the other hand, Virat Kohli slammed his 82nd international century against Pakistan. Despite the contrasting performances, ex-Pakistan batter Mohsin Khan has called Babar a better player than Virat Kohli.

Despite all the criticism, former Pakistan cricketer and coach Mohsin Khan has made a shocking statement on social media on the comparison between Babar and India cricketing legend Virat Kohli, saying that the 2-time World Champion is nothing compared to Babar on a local news channel called Ary News while open.

Former Pakistan coach Mohsin Khan’s shocking statement on Virat Kohli-Babar comparison

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee has been questioned on their team selection ahead of the Champions Trophy after a horrible performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Apart from the board, even the players have been criticised which also includes the likes of Babar Azam who is the current big star of Pakistan.

“First of all, let me tell you one thing. Virat Kohli is nothing compared to Babar Azam. Virat Kohli zero hai Babar Azam ke saamne . We are not talking here about who is a better player and we are talking about Pakistan cricket which has been destroyed. There is no planning, no strategies, no merit, and there is no accountability at all. There is no accountability,” Mohsin said.

Virat Kohli has registered 133 runs in the ongoing campaign, including a ton. So Mohsin’s statement comes as a surprise for many.

Babar’s opening conundrum in Champions Trophy hurt them badly

The other decision from the management that has upset the experts is to change Babar’s fixed position at number three to open the batting in the tournament. One of the experts who has had a problem with this change is former Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam, who shared his opinion on Sportstar.

“Why on earth will you send him to No. 1 He’s not an opener. No. 3 is the backbone of a batting lineup, and your best bet should come in that position, and he should have been told by the coaches to stay there for the entire duration and get a century.

If he got you a hundred and someone else chipped in with 50 or 60-odd, you’d have nearly 300 runs on the board, and that’s how you should be playing. Even Babar should have refused to change his batting position. I don’t know who convinced him to open the innings. It was a bad decision,” the former cricketer said.

According to a report by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a comprehensive review of the team’s performance after the Champions Trophy 2025 debacle. This might include a massive change in the squad with players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah facing the axe. Even though head coach Aaqib Javed has stated that he does not want to resign after the Champions Trophy 2025 debacle, the PCB might relieve him of his duties.
