Pakistan’s newly appointed white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan, has expressed optimism about the Indian cricket team receiving a warm reception if they decide to tour Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As the impasse over the ICC Champions Trophy venue continues, Pakistan’s newly appointed ODI and T20I skipper Mohammad Rizwan has broken his silence on the matter.

Mohammad Rizwan, who replaced Babar Azam as Pakistan’s new white-ball skipper, has sent a message to the Indian team, asking them to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

Mohammad Rizwan hopes to see arch-rivals play in Pakistan in Champions Trophy 2025

Newly-appointed Pakistan white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan hopes to see the Indian team visit their nation for the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy in February 2025. The keeper-batter recalled how Indian fans gave them a warm reception when Pakistan played in the 2023 World Cup.

India’s participation in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan remains uncertain, given the strained geopolitical relations between the two countries over the years.

With the Men in Blue not playing in Pakistan even during the Asia Cup last year and going for a hybrid model, the same could be on the cards for the Champions Trophy.

Speaking before his departure to Australia for the limited-overs series, Rizwan stated, as quoted by cricketpakistan.pk:

“When we went to India, we received a lot of love, and everyone witnessed that. The public will warmly welcome the Indian team in Pakistan as well. Whether the Indian team participates in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan is something the board knows better.”

India haven’t played in Pakistan since 2008. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed optimism about India visiting the neighboring nation for the tournament.

Mohammad Rizwan opens up on captaincy

Having succeeded Babar Azam as Pakistan’s white-ball captain, the 32-year-old claimed that it is an honor to serve in the role as he aims to thrive on everyone’s expectations. He said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan:

“I am deeply honored to be appointed as Pakistan’s white-ball captain. Representing Pakistan on the global stage is the greatest privilege and to now be entrusted with leading such a talented and exciting group of players is a tremendous honor. Joining the ranks of some of Pakistan’s legendary limited-overs captains truly is the icing on the cake.

“I am committed to giving my absolute best in this role and look forward to working closely with the selectors, coaches and my immensely talented teammates. Together, we aim to meet and exceed the expectations of our fans and supporters.”

Pakistan’s three-match ODI series against Australia begins on November 4 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
