GT’s Middle order tested
GT’s top 3, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill & Jos Buttler, have done a phenomenal work in this tournament. This trio didn’t allow the middle order to be tested till yesterday. Any one of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudrashan or Jos Buttler stood in the crease for more than 10 overs in all the previous matches. This is the first instance in this season that all three of them got out before the 10th over.
The previous worst came in the last match against MI when all three of them got out before the 15th over. It was a rain-affected match, and GT struggled to chase 147 in 19 overs and somehow finished the match in the last over. It’s been evident that GT struggles when their top 3 fail.
Barring these 2 matches, in all other instances one of the top 3 has stayed till the 18th over.
Jos Buttler got out ( 33 off 18 ) in the 10th over when the team score was 96/3. GT’s middle order was put into a test in a huge run chase. But, they managed it decently with contributions from Sharukh Khan ( 57 off 29 ) and Sherfane Rutherford ( 38 off 22 ).
But other batters failed as they couldn’t capitalize and finish the chase.
