ENG vs IND: Jofra Archer Sideline With Injury; Doubtful For Start Of India Tests

England have been dealt with a massive blow after Jofra Archer’s injury. The speedster was supposed to take part in West Indies ODI series commencing from 29th May. Jofra Archer was a part of RR in IPL 2025 and had taken 11 wickets in 12 matches and wasn’t that threatening apart from the last 3-4 matches.

England vs India Test series is set to commence from 20th June. Jofra Archer is now the key member of bowling unit with no James Anderson & Stuart Broad on the side who have hung up their boots. Mark Wood has been ruled out with injury for the entire summer and Jofra Archer’s injury can give headaches to ECB, Brendon McCullum & Ben Stokes ahead of a bumper Test series.

Questions arise over the ECB

Given Jofra Archer’s career, he is quite injury-prone as he often has elbow problem. It was quit surprising that ECB granted NOC to Archerr IPL 2025 as prior to IPL, ECB were smartly managing his workload. The richest board had introduced a rule just before mega auction that if an overseas player doesn’t register the name then he won’t be able to participate in IPL 2026, perhaps that was the reason that ECB changed their stance.

It really is quite perplexing that how Jofra Archer played IPL 2025, there are multiple training sessions, travel. ECB’s managing director Rob Key when asked about Jofra Archer’s injury and what are the plans ahead, he revealed the plan ahead for the lanky fast bowler.

“It is a couple of weeks – he’s not going to be far off bowling. We wanted to get four-day bowling in him. He’ll probably miss the Lions game we had him down to play but then he’ll probably play Championship cricket for Sussex,” said Rob Key to Sky Sports.

“We’ll get some red-ball bowling into him and then he’ll be ready – we thought around the second Test [against India] but it may be the third Test now. We’ll wait and see but it is nothing too serious,” he added.

Stern test for England

England skipper Ben Stokes has started bowling and can be a lethal bowling option. Stokes has mentioned ‘n’ times in press conference that for team, there’s no more pinnacle cricket than the Ashes 2025-26, which starts from November. England now has a dearth of quality fast bowling options and Indian batters would be relieved with not so experienced bowling attack.

The last two ICC WTC cycles have been forgettable for England. The ‘Bazball’ ideology has undergone a reality check after Test series defeats in India & Pakistan. It will be interesting to see whether England can revolutionize red ball cricket, as they don’t have ample quality resources in the fast bowling arena, which can spoil all the hard work of batters.
