The ultimate over of Jasprit Bumrah created unwanted controversy for the Indian cricket team. For a moment, it felt as if the Indian cricket team would hit Zak Crawley & Ben Duckett as the players went into the face on the pitch. The Umpires had to intervene and stop Shubman Gill‘s brigade from intimidating Zak Crawley.
There’s no doubt that Zak Crawley used some deliberate tactics to delay the passage of the game and avoid 2nd over being bowled in the match, which they succeeded. England played mind games and used all the tricks in the book, but Indian players crossed a line by getting physical with English openers, which can’t be overlooked at all, after all, it’s a game of gentlemen, not a violent sport like Football.
Questionable behavior by Shubman Gill’s brigade
Zak Crawley tried his best and succeeded in wasting time in the 1st over of Jasprit Bumrah by taking ample time. Zak Crawley didn’t want Ben Duckett to face the next over as he stopped Bumrah twice before bowling his ball, which agitated Shubman Gill so much that he forgot that he was playing cricket for India, not on the street.
Shubman Gill was accompanied by Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, and every other player and chattering and threatening Crawley and doing nasty things which are not so ideal and great. Ben Duckett intervened and stop the brutal kind of assault and then Gill threatened Duckett by pointing figures and it showed like giving an ultimatum, it was a ruckus and a chaos and it was blatantly orchestrated by India’s so called SuperStar Shubman Gill who left behind the spirit of the game and his actions showed him like a street wanderer playing cricket.
Repercussions and Implications loading for Jasprit Bumrah & Shubman Gill
Let’s go back to Boxing Day Test match 2024-25 at MCG, similar thing happened when Usman Khawaja was wasting time and Sam Konstas got into the skin of Bumrah and Co. Usman Khawaja in that innings was out immediately the next ball but India lost that Boxing Day Test match very badly which was shocking, who knows that India might see a repeat version of it at Lord’s.
The way Shubman Gill’s unit attacked Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, this ain’t a sign of a sporting unit. There won’t be any questions raised by the governing body and officials as Shubman Gill’s actions are justified because he is the face of Indian cricket now, and everything is acceptable, but what about the sport? Is this how the richest board’s skipper interacts with the opposition and players?
This is not the first time in a Lord’s Test that Shubman Gill has crossed the line, as in 1st innings, he was clearly seen arguing with the umpires and dominating and getting physical over the Dukes ball, but the Umpire refused to agree to his terms, which they did perfectly. Shubman Gill’s aura as a batter is commendable, but as a skipper, behaving like a street wanderer and a kind of rowdy is not something which the richest board would be proud of or who knows, they might be after al,l he is following the footsteps of the ex-Test captain “Virat Kohli”.
