Former Australia National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman and the current Punjab Kings coach, Brad Haddin, has made some interesting remarks on the veteran India National Cricket Team all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Brad Haddin believes that there has been a decline in Ravindra Jadeja’s career, and he is no longer as effective as he used to be.
Speaking on the LiSTNR Sport podcast, Brad Haddin advised India head coach Gautam Gambhir to be bold while selecting India’s playing XI for the second Test against England and drop Ravindra Jadeja for Kuldeep Yadav. He said:
“Are we seeing the decline of Ravindra Jadeja? I mean yes, he is effective in Indian conditions and how hard it is to play left-arm spin in India but I don’t think he is the best option to have in the team spin wise.
“I would look at Kuldeep. Someone who is an attacking spinner, who can get wickets. You’ve got a couple of hold-in bowlers. Siraj can play that role, but I think they need to be a bit more bold in their selection of bowlers.”
Brad Haddin further said if India include the all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in the playing XI, they can drop Ravindra Jadeja, who has been quite ineffective, and bring in an attacking spin-bowling option, which will make their team composition better. He said:
“If Reddy plays, then you don’t have to play Jadeja and bring the attacking spin option. I think that’s one thing they’ve got to look at, especially away from home.
“I don’t think Jadeja can be effective. Yes, he is good all-rounder and he could play as a second spinner – hold at the other end. But I think they need to be more attacking, be willing to lose a Test match with some inexperienced bowlers but change their mindset at the way they go about it.”
The second Test match between India and England will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham from July 2 to 6. Reportedly, India will be missing the services of Jasprit Bumrah in the match as he has decided to play just three out of five matches.
