ENG vs IND: Abhishek Nayar’s Words Of Wisdom & Analysis On KL Rahul’s Technique

KL Rahul performance during the 1st Test was ups and down against England. The former Indian coach Abhishek Nayar shared his reasons behind one of the well performed batsman KL Rahul downfall in recent both innings against England on 24th June.

Abhishek Nayar’s Concrete Remarks On KL Rahul

K L Rahul is among Indian cricket for all format and can able to perform under pressure. But the in the first test against England, K L Rahul (42) didn’t perform well in first innings. In second innings, he performed mesmerizingly by scoring 137 runs. According to Nayar, it’s very hard for a player like Rahul to play under pressure sometimes because of high expectations from people. At times expectations of people spoil a cricketer rising moments. Nayar reported that,

“You start thinking this is what you need to do, and this is what you need to achieve, and people keep talking about your potential and your talent, and you keep adding more pressure saying that because everyone thinks I’m talented and because I have the potential, I need to live up to it, and those expectations sometimes weigh on you your shoulders, and those expectations sometimes really pull you down in a lot of ways and don’t let you be you,”

Nayar also included by saying that,

“It takes the fun out of the game. This doesn’t let you play the kind of cricket you want to play, and more than anything it kills your instinct completely. So it makes you a very predetermined player, devoid of natural flow.”

KL Rahul is top rated opener of India and has played 59 test matches and accumulated 3436 runs throughout his career. He has won the orange cap in IPL 2020 for the most run-making. Though he has been criticized for his bad performance in world cup 2023, K L Rahul has never failed his fans

In an Interview, Abhishek Nayar has provided some advice to play calmly and strategically even in pressure situations. He said,

“All I can tell you is, the way I’ve always tried to handle things is to first try and address the skill, and then use skill as a medium to address the mind. I have this belief system that if it’s meant to be, it will be. If it’s not, it’s just not the time. I always believed that he was doing all the right things, and it was just not converting.”

NAYAR SUGGESTION TOWARDS K L RAHUL AHEAD OF 2ND TEST AGAINST ENGLAND

In the meantime, he shared his and Rahul’s conversation in the previous test series. He also shared that instead of feeling guilty for making lower scores and what-ifs, one should be happy. He then quoted that,

“The pitches in that series (Border-Gavaskar Trophy), bar MCG, had a lot of grass. I remember telling him you need to understand this part of the sport as well. We want to score hundreds, we want to do things, but sometimes when you score 270 in a series, you need to be happy about it. And not think about what if I scored 350 or what if I scored 400.”

In speaking of KL Rahul was not satisfied in the Australia Tour due to poor performance. Abhishek Nayar sympathized by saying that,

“I’m not saying be satisfied, but you also have to acknowledge the fact that you were not part of the Test team very recently, and you come to Australia back in a position that that you weren’t batting in, and you still managed to hold onto that position at end of it.”

India vs England Test match will starting from 2nd July at Leeds.
