Former wicket-keeper and batter Dinesh Karthik has pointed out two things that newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir could bring to the table. Gautam Gambhir was appointed the head coach of the Indian Men’s cricket team on July 9, 2024.
Gautam Gambhir will embark on the journey of leading the men’s team as a head coach on July 27. India’s series against Sri Lanka, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is, starts on July 27. While Rohit Sharma will captain the ODI squad, Surya Kumar Yadav will lead the T20I from the front. In the meantime, Shubman Gill will be the vice-captain for both formats.
Dinesh Karthik Refers To Gautam Gambhir As A Player’s Man
Dinesh Karthik voiced Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as head coach as the right call. The former wicket-keeper batter expressed his views on the ex-Indian start opening batter, who will now guide India starting July 27. Dinesh Karthik designated Gautam Gambhir as a good leader. Moreover, he pointed out two things that coach Gautam Gambhir will bring to the table.
The first thing that Dinesh Karthik pointed out about the Gautam Gambhir is that he is a player’s name. Adding to his point, he further stated that Gautam Gambhir could help players who are in misery. As per Karthik, sometimes cricketers might become depressed and feel lonely when performances drop, mainly in International cricket. Hence, Gautam Gambhir could assist by being there for the player. Speaking of the second point, Dinesh Karthik indicated Gautam Gambhir as a clever and tactical person. Talking to Cricbuzz Dinesh Karthik Said,
“He’s a very good leader. I think he will bring two things to the Indian team. One is the fact that he’s a complete players’ man. He protects his players, and that’s very important in international cricket because, at times, you can feel lonely or deserted in international cricket when performances don’t go your way. So, Gambhir is going to do that,” he further added,
“And number two, he’ll definitely bring a clever tactical angle to this Indian team. Very fierce, intense guy, and I always liked playing for the team and did whatever it took to win a game of cricket,”
Gautam Gambhir recently mentored the Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2024 Champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Kolkata Knight Riders triumphed in the Ipl after a long wait of ten years under Gambhir’s mentorship. Before this, Gautam Gambhir mentored Lucknow Super Giants for their first two seasons in the Ipl. LSG managed to qualify for the playoffs in both seasons.

Surya Kumar Yadav will serve as the captain of the Indian team in the T20 format alongside Shubman Gill as the vice-captain. SKY now stands at the second position Indian batter in the T20I format of ICC Men’s Batting Rankings. However, Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the ODI format with Shubman featuring as vice-captain in both formats.
