Mitchell Starc’s fifer
Mitchell Starc ran through the SRH batting lineup yesterday and took his first fifer in IPL. Mitchell Starc finished his spell with 4-35-5. He is the second DC player to do so. The first ever Fifer for DC came from Amit Mishra back in 2008 against the Deccan Chargers, Hyderabad. Interestingly, both the fifers for Delhi came against the Hyderabad franchises.
Starc also becomes the first fast bowler to pick a fifer for DC. Overall, he became the fourth Aussie bowler to take a fifer in IPL following James Faulkner, Adam Zampa, and Andrew Tye. 4 out of 5 fifers of Aussies came against SRH.
James Faulkner did it twice against SRH in 2013, Adam Zampa in 2016, and Mitchell Starc in 2025. Andrew Tye took his fifer against RPSG in 2017.
Aniket Verma’s Rise
People often appreciate and praise the talent scout of Mumbai Indians for bringing unknown talent into spotlight. But in recent years, other franchises have also started to hunt local talents and back them. especially SRH, who introduced Nithish Kumar Reddy last year found another young Indian finisher called from Madhya Pradesh called Aniket Verma.
He failed in the first match but proved his worth by in the next two matches by scoring 36 off 13 vs LSG and 74 off 41 vs DC yesterday. In both matches, he came after a slight collapse in the top order and didn’t allow the opponents to get back into the game until he is there in the middle.
He smashed sixes and kept the scoring rate in the same flow and didn’t let the team lose the momentum of the match. Aniket has the ability to smash proper straight batted huge sixes right from the first ball. Hope SRH grooms him well and he also reaches the heights where Nitish Reddy has gone now.
Vintage KL Rahul back?
KL Rahul came to bat when the DC were at 96/2 after 10 overs. Just 58 runs were needed from 60 balls, and it is the ideal situation for him to take his time and come out with an unbeatable 30 runs off 20 balls. But KL had other plans. KL Rahul went for his shots right from the first ball.
He played very short cameo of 15 runs from 5 balls but had a clear message that this is how he is going to play in this season. This reminded the fans of the KL Rahul of 2016, where he used to bat in the middle order for the Indian team and RCB and go for the shots right from ball one.
If KL Rahul unleashes that version of him, then with Faf at the top and Asutosh to finish, he will be great asset in the middle order and DC will be a team to beat in this season.
