Jasprit Bumrah proved to be the nemesis for Australia’s batters in the first Test match. Jasprit Bumrah took 8 wickets in the match, including a 5-wicket haul in the first innings. India undoubtedly would be booming with confidence after annihilating the Aussies and winning the match by a massive margin of 295 runs.

Skipper Pat Cummins is the team’s whole and soul, and they must pull their socks up. Chief selector George Bailey has much to ponder regarding the combination ahead of the 2nd Test match scheduled on 6th December at Adelaide and already has received a lot of backlash for making Nathan McSweeney the opener in the opening test match who looked in all sorts of trouble.

Jasprit Bumrah was absolutely fantastic- Michael Atherton

Michael Atherton was seen interacting with Sky Sports Podcast & was quite impressed with Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. Atherton was quite happy that he didn’t face Jasprit Bumrah during his playing days. Atherton stated that it’s quite tough for the batters to play Bumrah and pick his release points.

“I thought Jasprit Bumrah was absolutely fantastic. Those two new ball spells. I mean, there’s a few bowlers when you retire, you don’t really think about, you know, your time as a player, but there’s the odd bowler that I just think, thank goodness I did not face him with a new ball,” said Michael Atherton.

“I mean, how would you play him? He’s like a nightmare, isn’t he? He stutters away from off about 10 yards and then unleashes these thunderbolts, usually bang on a sixpence,” he added.

Jasprit Bumrah an asset

The interim skipper for the 1st Test match Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t afraid of a steep challenge. Bumrah was seen hitting the hard length quite regularly & he tired that Aussie batters played every ball and was bowling wicket to wicket making life harder for the hosts.

Bumrah in the 2018-19 BGT series was the joint leading wicket-taker with 21 wickets to his name along with Nathan Lyon. Head coach Gautam Gambhir would be carefully monitoring the workload of Bumrah as this is a 5 Test match series where he could be exhausted given that in Australia; bowlers have to bowl long spells to be amongst the wickets.
