Former Australian keeper-batter Brad Haddin revealed his fears over Team India’s Kanpur exploits getting repeated in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Nevertheless, Brad Haddin could not help but doff his hat to Rohit Sharma and co. for their brave approach and forcing a win out of nowhere.

Former Australia cricketer Brad Haddin showered praise on India captain Rohit Sharma for his aggressive approach in the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur. Notably, India managed to finish the match in just 173.2 overs in total after the game witnessed a washout of over two days.

India’s win in 2 days at Kanpur Test vs Bangladesh impresses Brad Haddin

With days two and three getting washed out due to rain and wet outfield, India ramped up on day four to produce a result against Bangladesh. The hosts bowled the Tigers out for 233 and razed to a 52-run lead only in 34.4 overs. With eight Bangladeshi wickets left to pick up on day 5, India did it after lunch and chased down the target of 95 with seven wickets and over 40 overs to spare.

After bundling out Bangladesh for 233 in the first innings, India came out with an all-out attack approach as they scored 285/9 in just 34.4 overs and took a 52-run lead.

Former Australia cricketer Brad Haddin lauded the Indian team’s amazing win over Bangladesh in the rain-affected second Test that was played in Kanpur. Despite more than 2 days being wasted due to rain, India managed to register a 7-wicket win to pocket the series 2-0.

Rain and a wet outfield prompted no action for more than two days in the Kanpur Test, after Bangladesh finished 107/3 on day one. When play started on day four, a tie appeared likely with only two days remaining. Bangladesh were eventually dismissed for 233 in their first innings. India then reached 285/9 in rapid succession and took two Bangladesh wickets late on the penultimate day. On the last day, India bowled Bangladesh out for 146 and then chased down 95 for a quick victory.

Brad Haddin is optimistic that India can replicate such performances during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia this November. India will travel down under to play five Tests for the first time since the 1991-92 tour.

Brad Haddin Admits To Being Afraid Team India will replicate their Kanpur heroics in BGT 2024-25

Former Australian keeper-batter Brad Haddin has opined that Team India can fully repeat their Kanpur Test exploits in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. At the same time, the former New South Wales cricketer feels it was amazing to watch India go for the win.

With two full days lost due to rain and wet outfield, India went on to dismiss Bangladesh after lunch on Day 4 for 233. Later, they blazed away to a lead of 52 only in 34.4 overs and left Bangladesh with two down by stumps. The two sides returned on the final day as it culminated in India chasing down a target of 95 with more than 40 overs to spare.

On being asked on the LiSTNR podcast whether India can repeat the same tactics against Australia, Haddin said he believes it is possible. He remarked:

“I actually do. Because if you look at this result… the worst result for India would’ve been a draw. There was no way India would’ve lost it. Rohit had nothing to lose. How good was it to watch! It’s a wonderful way to win Test cricket.”

India have won the last two series in Australia and will be eyeing a record hat-trick of victories when they visit Down Under later this year. The Indian team has also won the last four Test series against Australia.

Brad Haddin lauds Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for teams heroics at Kanpur

Brad Haddin stated that he takes his hat off to captain Rohit Sharma and the support staff for forcing a result and going for the win despite a draw looking like the most proximate result. The 46-year-old added:

“They gave themselves a chance to win the game. It wasn’t about how many runs I score, it’s about finding enough time to bowl Bangladesh out. They played a great brand of cricket, but it was all about giving them enough time. My hat goes off to support staff, Rohit Sharma… he has always been this sort of captain: Win first. I love the style of cricket.

“They could’ve had a net session, gone for a draw, no one would have said a thing. The mindset of Rohit Sharma to find a way to manipulate a result… teams are scared to go 10 runs/over in 20 overs cricket! So, I take my hats off to India.”

Following their victory, India continued their reign at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table with eight wins from 11 matches having a points percentage of 74.24. They will next face New Zealand in a three-match Test series beginning from October 16. The Rohit Sharma-led side will further tour Australia for a five-match Test series beginning from November 22.
