Asia Cup 2025: Kuldeep Yadav & Suryakumar Yadav Dethrone Pakistan

Suryakumar Yadav’s brigade delivered yet another powerful performance in the Asia Cup 2025. India quite comfortably chased down 128 runs with 4.1 overs left in the match. Kuldeep Yadav was quite unplayable in his 4-over quota as he conceded 18 runs in & took 3 scalps. Kuldeep Yadav deceived the batters with his mind-boggling variations.

Pakistan got a very bad reality check, as earlier, when they thrashed Oman by 93 runs, and there were huge hopes from them, but they got outplayed in all three 3 facets of the game. Salman Ali Agha once again failed to make a case for himself as this time he scored 3 runs in 12 balls, as his struggles against spin were quite evident.

Kuldeep Yadav & Axar Patel bamboozle Pakistan

Pakistan astonishingly opted to bat first against India. The wicket wasn’t quite a batting paradise with Indian spinners duping Pakistan bowlers. Saim Ayub’s lean patch continued after yet another first-ball duck. Pakistan’s batters in the powerplay overs were quite timid as Jasprit Bumrah & Hardik Pandya were spot on with their line & lengths with scoring 42 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav trounced Pakistan’s batters with his variations. Kuldeep Yadav got rid of Hasan Nawaz & Mohammad Nawaz in the 13th over as the decision to give the ball extra air frustrated Pakistani batters. Sahibzada Farhan looked solid in his approach but he didn’t get the ample support from the rest of the batters; there was not a single 40-run partnership in the innings.

Salman Ali Agha should have taken the responsibility of taking the team out of a muddle when the score was 45-3. The skipper, though, was set up by Axar Patel smartly by making him play a string of dot balls, which enticed him to play an audacious shot and was dismissed on 3 runs in 12 balls.

Hardik Pandya proved to be expensive in his spell when he conceded 34 runs in his 3-over spell, but dismissed Saim Ayub in the very first over. India’s decision to rest Arshdeep Singh has been quite successful, given India’s spinners have been able to contain the batters in all stages of the innings in the 2 matches so far.

Shaheen Afridi ended the innings on a good note for Pakistan as his 33-run cameo in 16 balls was the only positive in the death overs. Shaheen Afridi’s blitz put on a fighting target of 128 runs. The Men in Green’s batting unit has succumbed to pressure twice so far in Asia Cup 2025.

Abhishek Sharma & Suryakumar Yadav torment Pakistan

Abhishek Sharma was in beast mode from ball 1 against Shaheen Afridi, who whacked him for a four & then six on the second ball and scored 12 runs in the over. Abhishek Sharma’s bat swing and shots were splendid. Abhishek Sharma disseminated the bowlers around the park. It seemed as if India was in a hurry to chase down the target that accumulated 61 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Abhishek Sharma’s quick-fire cameo of 31 runs in 13 balls stole the show in the powerplay overs & he hit 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Saim Ayub was successful in sending back Shubman Gill & Abhishek Sharma in his first 2 over spell, but Pakistan didn’t have the luxury of having a score in excess of 150. Suryakumar Yadav & Tilak Varma were in complete control of the run chase, the required run rate was way below 6 runs per over, but a string of wickets could have brought the Men in Green back in the game.

Abrar Ahmed was the most economical bowler who gave away only 16 runs in his 4-over spell, but was wicketless, which hurt Pakistan more. Suryakumar Yadav played his funky & stylish shots flamboyantly in the run chase. Tilak Varma played a second fiddle and an anchor kind of a knock of 31 runs in 31 balls & hit 2 fours and 1 six & was involved in a 56-run partnership in 52 balls with Suryakumar Yadav.

Pakistan’s decision to leave out Haris Rauf and show faith in a winning bowling attack backfired very badly. Haris Rauf could have provided early breakthroughs when Shaheen Afridi was taken to the cleaners in his first 2 overs, who conceded 33 runs and wasn’t that disciplined in his line & length as his yorkers were turning out to be a cake-walk for Abhishek Sharma & Shubman Gill.

What lies ahead for India & Pakistan

India would be ecstatic with their brilliant all-around performance in all three 3 facets of the game. India never really allowed Pakistan to run away with the game & forced Pakistan to make multiple comebacks in the match. Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy must be lauded as he was marshalling his troops to perfection. India has almost qualified for the Super 4 stage, and they have 4 points with an NRR of +4.793, and their next match against Oman on 19th September at Abu Dhabi can be said a kind of dead rubber, given that it will be the last match of the first league phase.

Pakistan, on the other hand, would be shell-shocked given their below-par performance. Head coach Mike Hesson would be wondering how Pakistan batters bat with more freedom rather than falling into the trap. Salman Ali Agha’s batting unit needs to have a collective performance rather than a complete one-man show. Pakistan’s NRR is +1.649 and has 2 points from 2 matches. The Men in Green’s next clash is against the UAE on 17th September in Dubai. A win will undoubtedly seal a Super 4 spot, but given how Pakistan have fared so far with the bat in hand, they can stumble against the UAE.
