Bangladesh would be tested against Afghanistan in the ODI series commencing from 6th November at Sharjah. Since it’s a day-night game, both the teams would fancy to defend the target. The dashing batter Towhid Hridoy would be keen to become a regular member of the side in the ODI format. Towhid Hridoy has got a natural attacking gameplan which can change the complexion of game.
Bangladesh are without the flamboyant all-rounder Shakib-Al- Hasan despite making himself available for selection. Once again the onus will be on the duo Mushfiqur Rahim & Mahmudullah to negate the threat of spinners. Afghanistan would be eyeing to bamboozle Bangladesh; earlier in September 2024 they won a historic maiden ODI series against South Africa in Sharjah and would back themselves to outfox Bangladeshi batters.
Towhid Hridoy urges Bangladesh to focus on Champions Trophy 2025
Bangladesh’s Towhid Hridoy is brimming with enthusiasm as he gears up for the upcoming Champions Trophy preparations, starting with a critical three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE.
“Every cricketer here is a professional, and dwelling on the past serves no purpose. It’s essential for us to take it one game at a time, be it a standalone match or an entire tournament.
What we achieved recently should stay behind us; rather, our focus should be on how we commence our next challenge. Living in the present is vital. I understand that expectations are elevated, but it’s important to remember that no player can shine in every match,” Towhid Hridoy remarked during a press briefing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, prior to the team’s departure for the UAE.
With key players Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan unavailable, Hridoy may find himself elevated in the batting order. He expressed his readiness to fit into any role.
“I don’t want to be fixated on my batting position. As I’ve mentioned before, my priority is the team’s needs, and I’m prepared to bat anywhere it is required,” he said.
Towhid Hridoy emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating,
“Ultimately, it’s about the team. The batting order is determined based on team requirements and the specific situation we are in. With Litton and Shakib absent, adjustments to the order are inevitable.”
Looking ahead to the series, Towhid Hridoy shared his thoughts on the conditions in the UAE, expressing confidence in being able to adapt.
“Although I’ve never played in Sharjah before and this will be my first series there, I don’t foresee it being particularly challenging for us, as every player is familiar with these conditions. I believe it will be quite similar to what we encounter back home in Bangladesh,” he added.
On Afghanistan’s bowling unit, particularly their spinners, Towhid Hridoy noted,
“Their bowling, especially the spin attack, is a significant strength. We are well aware of this, and excelling in international cricket means rising to meet such challenges. We intend to devise our strategies accordingly to manage their capabilities effectively.”
