Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav remains quite sure of making a comeback to the national team after being left out of the squads for the upcoming Ireland and England tours. Suryakumar Yadav admitted that he is working hard to regain his place and is focused on improving his game.
Suryakumar Yadav Determined to Earn India Return
Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to their third T20 World Cup title earlier this year, was dropped from the T20I squad after a difficult run of form, including a disappointing IPL campaign. However, the batter remains confident about his chances of returning to international cricket. Speaking about his comeback plans at a Pro Govinda League event, Suryakumar said,
“Look, I’m putting in all the hard work and doing everything I can. If things go well, then everything will fall into place,” said Suryakumar Yadav.
His comments underline his focus on preparation rather than selection pressure. After losing the captaincy to Shreyas Iyer and being left out of the squad, Suryakumar now faces the challenge of proving his consistency with the bat.
India’s Recent T20I Results
Suryakumar’s omission comes at a time when India have struggled in T20I cricket under Shreyas Iyer. India lost the series against Ireland 2-0 before suffering a 4-0 defeat against England in a five-match series, while the first England T20I was abandoned due to rain.
Suryakumar had previously been a key part of India’s T20I setup and took over as captain following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format. He then guided India to the T20 World Cup title, but his recent form has raised questions about his place in the side.
Fitness and Form Could Decide His Comeback
Suryakumar Yadav also had a light-hearted exchange with Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya during an event in Colombo. While joking about Jayasuriya’s fitness and a possible international return, Suryakumar said, “Getting fitter, trying to make a comeback? Looks like 100%.”
The Mumbai Indians star will now need to rediscover his best batting form and maintain his fitness to strengthen his case for selection. With the next phase of India’s T20I setup taking shape, Suryakumar’s determination could be crucial if he wants to force his way back into the national team.
