SL vs IND: Ajinkya Rahane’s Test Career In Numbers

India’s star-studded right-handed batter Ajinkya Rahane bid adieu to all forms of the game. Ajinkya Rahane was the silent assassin in India’s batting lineup, with all focus on the giants Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma in the red-ball arena. Not representing India in any of the formats post the 2023 Test series against the West Indies, the batter had no choice but to pave the way for the next crop of players & announce it officially.

Ajinkya Rahane has even retired from IPL, as KKR will have to find a new leader for the upcoming season. Rahane wasn’t at his brutal best with bat in hand as he amassed 335 runs in 14 matches; KKR’s fortune changed in the second half as he faced a lot of scrutiny. It would be interesting to see if he plays franchise leagues around the globe, as he now has that option to pursue opportunities. As he is 38 years old, we can say he has a year or two left in him, given his fitness doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Ajinkya Rahane stood tall in overseas conditions, which mattered the most for India. Rahane was often termed a fielder with safe hands in slips & took down the opposition in challenging conditions in England in 2014 & in Australia in 2018-19 & 2020-21, as he had the knack of making the opposition team bowlers toil a lot, just like Cheteshwar Pujara, which frustrated the teams immensely.
