MI VS LSG: Nicholas Pooran’s Explosive Half Century Powers LSG To 228/5.

Nicholas Pooran roared back into form, especially in the power play with his explosive innings. The power play belonged to LSG, but MI came back really well in the death overs to pull things back a little bit. LSG has made 228/5 in 20 overs. This is a good score, but 15-20 runs short of what could have been a better total. The game remains in the balance.

LSG gets off to a blazing start despite losing Josh Inglis early in the power play. 

Put into bat first, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis came out to bat for LSG while Deepak Chahar had the ball in hand for MI. Marsh started with a bang with a maximum over midwicket for the maximum, and then followed it up with a boundary past the bowler’s head for a boundary. Jasprit Bumrah came into the attack from the other end. Inglis got off the blocks straightaway as he clipped it behind square for a boundary. Marsh joined the party as he punched it straight down the ground for a boundary.

Allah Ghazanfar came into the attack next as Inglis rocked back and pulled it past deep midwicket region for a boundary. Inglis went big again as he drove it behind square for a boundary through the backward point region. Ghazanfar gave the first breakthrough for MI as he removed Inglis for 13 off 5 balls with 3 fours to his name as he miscued the ball to Suryakumar Yadav at mid-on, who made no mistake. Nicholas Pooran came out to bat next and got off the mark as well.

Bumrah continued as Marsh went through the lofted drive over wide long-on for the maximum. Marsh then pulled it along the ground between deep square leg and fine leg for a boundary, and it was a no-ball as well. The free hit was drilled down the ground back past the bowler for a boundary. 21 runs came off the over.

Will Jacks came into the attack next. Pooran took on Jacks straightaway and launched it down the ground for the maximum. Pooran then slog swept the ball over backward square leg for the maximum. Pooran went big again as he got underneath the ball and swept it behind square for a maximum. Ghazanfar came back to bowl the last over of the power play.

Pooran was in the zone as he pulled it away in front of the square for a boundary. Pooran took on Ghazanfar and dispatched the ball with a pull behind square for the maximum over backward square leg. The 50-run stand came up between Pooran and Marsh. Pooran went big with a step forward and pumped it high and handsome over long-on for the maximum. At the end of 6 overs of power play, LSG were 90/1 with Pooran unbeaten on 39 off 12 balls alongside Marsh unbeaten on 35 off 20 balls. We all paused for the first Strategic Time Out of the match.

MI fought back with a flurry of wickets to put the brakes on LSG’s batting in the middle overs. 

Corbin Bosch came into the attack post the power play and the break. Pooran was dealing in sixes as he picked the length up and pummelled the pull over forward square leg for the maximum. The 100 came up for LSG in 6.5 overs. Marsh went big next as he stood tall and pulled it powerfully over midwicket for the maximum. Deepak Chahar came back into the attack as Pooran went big as he looked to hook and launch it away over deep fine leg for the maximum. Pooran got to his fifty in 16 balls. His 15th IPL fifty.

Pooran went big again as he launched it away down the ground over long-on for the maximum. Bosch continued, and he got the breakthrough for MI as he removed Pooran for 63 off 21 balls with 1 four and 8 sixes to his name as the batter gloved it through to the keeper. Rishabh Pant came out to bat next. Pant survived a caught behind appeal as the ball bounced to the keeper. Bosch got another one as he removed Marsh for 44 off 25 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes to his name as Naman Dhir took the catch in the deep.

Aiden Markram came out to bat next. Raghu Sharma came into the attack next as Pant slog swept the ball away over midwicket for the maximum. LSG reached 141/3 in 10 overs at the halfway stage of the game. Jacks came back into the attack as Pant was down on one knee and played a lofted sweep over backward square for a boundary, one bounce and over the ropes.

Jack’s got his man as he got rid of Pant for 15 off 10 balls with one four and one six to his name as he got the edge through to the keeper. Akshat Raghuwanshi came out to bat next and got off the mark with a maximum down the ground over long-on. Ghazanfar returned and bowled a decent over. Raghu continued and dismissed Raghuwanshi for 11 off 7 balls with one six to his name as MI got another crucial wicket. Himmat Singh came out to bat next.

MI wasted a review on Himmat Singh. The second Strategic Time Out was taken with LSG at 164/5 in 13 overs. Bumrah returned and bowled a no-ball as he had gotten a wicket off a no-ball. Then he bowled a wide, and then followed that up with another no-ball. But it did not yield that many runs. Raghu continued and bowled a decent over. LSG were 175/5 in 15 overs with Markram unbeaten on 14 off 14 balls and Himmat Singh unbeaten on 6 off 12 balls.

MI does well to keep LSG down to 228/5 in 20 overs. 

Allah Ghazanfar came to bowl his final over as Markram broke the shackles with a sweep past short fine leg for a boundary. Himmat took on Ghazanfar and lofted it over long-off for the maximum and then got it through covers for a boundary. Raghu continued as Markram took him with a thump over the bowler’s head for the maximum. Himmat went big again over deep midwicket for the maximum as the 200 came up in 16.4 overs for LSG.

Deepak Chahar returned as the 50-run stand came up between the duo. Chahar bowled an excellent 18th over. Bumrah now had the ball for the 19th over. Himmat broke the shackles with a smash over the bowler’s head for a boundary. Chahar bowled the final over of the innings as runs came in singles as he bowled a good last over.

Markram remained unbeaten on 31 off 25 balls with one four and one six to his name, while Himmat remained unbeaten on 40 off 31 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes to his name. 11 extras given by the fielding side as LSG finished with 228/5 in 20 overs.

For MI, they came back well with the ball in hand. Corbin Bosch finished with 2/20 in 2 overs. Raghu Sharma finished with 1/36 in 4 overs. Will Jacks finished with 1/34 in 2 overs. Allah Ghazanfar finished with 1/50 in 4 overs. Deepak Chahar finished with 0/43 in 4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah finished with 0/45 in 4 overs. This means the target for MI was 229 runs to win in 20 overs.

Who’s Winning, MI or LSG? 

LSG have got the runs on the board and will be happy with the total. But the MI bowlers have done well to restrict LSG under 230, where a score of 250 would have been possible. So, this match is evenly poised at this stage. MI has the batting, LSG has the bowling. Let’s see how the run chase pans out for both teams.
