Jason Holder shone with the ball while Washington Sundar shone and finished things off with the bat in hand as GT held off a spirited PBKS challenge to win by 4 wickets with a ball to spare. The new ball bowlers set it up for GT before Jason Holder took over. PBKS, who were at 47/5 in the 9th over at one stage, managed to post 163/9 in 20 overs, thanks to a half-century from Suryansh Shedge, while others chipped in as well.
In the chase, Sai Sudharsan scored a gritty 57 while Washington Sundar finished things off for GT with his unbeaten 40, including a six off the penultimate game of the match as GT won with a ball to spare. PBKS tried their best towards the end with a flurry of wickets after getting only one wicket in the power play, but it was not to be for them. PBKS stays at the top spot while GT solidifies 5th spot and now has the same points as teams in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. It’s all to play for in IPL 2026.
Jason Holder’s 4-Wicket Haul Limits PBKS to 163/9 in 20 overs.Â
Put into bat first, Priyansh Arya and keeper batter Prabhsimran Singh came out to bat for PBKS while Mohammed Siraj had the ball in hand for GT. Arya was at first dropped by the running keeper Buttler, which resulted in a couple of runs. But in the very next ball, Arya hit it hard straight to Sindhu at deep backward point, who made no mistake as Siraj had a wicket to his name. Cooper Connolly came and went first ball for a golden duck, with the batter wasting the review. Captain Shreyas Iyer came and survived the hat-trick ball.
Shreyas and Prabhsimran tried to counterattack a little. Both of them rebuilt the innings and put on an important 33-run stand for the third wicket before Prabhsimran fell for 15 off 14 balls with 2 fours to his name to Kagiso Rabada. Nehal Wadhera came out to bat next. The power play score for PBKS was 35/3 in 6 overs. Just one run was added to the score before Wadhera fell for a duck off 6 balls to Jason Holder. Suryansh Shedge came out to bat next.
Shedge and Iyer tried to forge a partnership of note and could add only 11 runs to the score before Iyer played on to a Jason Holder delivery for 19 off 21 balls with 3 fours to his name as PBKS had lost half their side for 47 inside 9 overs. Marcus Stoinis came out to bat next. PBKS were staring down in this game, and only a miracle could save them now. This is where Shedge and Stoinis joined forces to start the rebuild for the Kings. They complemented each other really well and held the innings together as there was a need for a partnership.
The duo played the rest of the middle overs well and aced it to put on 79 runs for the 6th wicket before Shedge, who completed his maiden IPL fifty, was finally dismissed for a well-made 57 off 29 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes to his name to Kagiso Rabada. Marco Jansen came out to bat with 4 overs to go as he was the last of the recognised batters for PBKS. The duo of Stoinis and Jansen added 15 runs to the tally before Stoinis fell for 40 off 31 balls with 5 fours and one six to his name to Holder. Xavier Bartlett came out to bat next.
Bartlett came and went first ball as Holder had two in two balls to have 4 wickets in the night and was on a hat-trick. Impact Player Vijaykumar Vyshak came out to bat next. Jansen added valuable runs with the tail after this and put on 21 for the 9th wicket, which was crucial before Jansen fell for 20 off 11 balls with one four and one six to his name to Rashid Khan, who was bowling the final over of the innings. Arshdeep Singh came out to bat next with one ball to go.
Arshdeep scored a single and got off the mark off the last ball of the innings. Vijaykumar was unbeaten on 1 off 3 balls while Arshdeep was unbeaten on 1 off 1 ball. 8 extras given by the fielding side. PBKS did well to finish with 163/9 in 20 overs after being 47/5 at one stage.
From the Titans bowlers’ point of view, Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/24 in 4 overs. He was ably supported by fellow pacers Kagiso Rabada, who finished with 2/22 in 4 overs, and Mohammed Siraj, who finished with 2/28 in 4 overs. Rashid Khan finished with figures of 1/32 in 4 overs. Arshad Khan went for 29 in 3 overs, while Manav Suthar’s only over went for 27 runs. So, this meant that the target for GT was 164 runs in 20 overs.

Chasing 164 for the win, Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill came out to bat for GT while Xavier Bartlett had the ball in hand for PBKS. Sudharsan got going, and Gill got a boundary away, but the opening duo put on 16 runs for the first wicket before the captain Gill fell for 5 off 4 balls with one boundary to his name to Arshdeep Singh. Jos Buttler came out to bat next. Buttler and Sai Sudharsan joined forces and tried to forge a stand after the early loss of Gill.
At the end of the power play, GT were 58/1 in 6 overs and well-placed in the chase. The duo put on 53 runs for the second wicket before Buttler fell for 26 off 22 balls with one four and two sixes to his name to Vyshak Vijaykumar. Nishant Sindhu came out to bat next. Sai and Sindhu added another crucial partnership as they added 25 runs for the 3rd wicket before Sindhu fell for 15 off 11 balls with one six to his name to Marcus Stoinis. Washington Sundar came out to bat at 5.
Sudharsan and Sundar added 30 crucial runs for the 4th wicket before the set batter Sudharsan fell for 57 off 41 balls with 5 fours and one six to his name to Vijaykumar Vyshak. Impact Player Rahul Tewatia came out to bat next. From here, Sundar took on the role of the main scorer and did the bulk of the scoring.
The Impact Player was not able to make such a great impact tonight. Sundar and Tewatia still managed to add 16 runs for the 5th wicket before Tewatia fell for 2 off 6 balls to Marco Jansen. Jason Holder came out to bat next. 12 runs were added to the tally between Holder and Sundar before Holder fell for 5 off 7 balls to Arshdeep Singh.
With 12 needed off 7 balls, Arshad Khan came out to bat and got off the mark. Arshad faced the final over from Stoinis and hit him for a crucial boundary to bring the equation down. The equation boiled down to 3 needed off 2 balls, where Sundar held his nerve and hit a maximum to win the game for his side. Washington Sundar was unbeaten on 40 off 23 balls with 5 fours and one six to his name, while Arshad Khan was unbeaten on 8 off 5 balls with one four to his name. 9 extras given by the fielding side as GT finished with 167/6 in 19.5 overs.
PBKS bowlers did really well with the ball, trying to defend a below-par score. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/24 in 4 overs. Impact Player Vyshak Vijaykumar finished with figures of 2/31 in 4 overs. Marco Jansen chipped in with 1/33 in 4 overs. Marcus Stoinis chipped in with 1/26 in 2.5 overs. Xavier Bartlett finished with figures of 0/38 in 4 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled an over for 13 runs. So, GT beats PBKS in a thriller in Ahmedabad. Jason Holder was adjudged the Player of the Match.
What Lies Ahead.Â
So, with this win, GT solidifies 5th place with 12 points, and that is the same number of points that RR, SRH, & RCB have, and PBKS are one point ahead of them at the top. RCB and PBKS have played 9 games while RR, SRH, & GT have played 10 games. So, the race for the top four is heating up now. CSK and DC, in 6th and 7th place, are not out of it yet. Tomorrow’s game is a battle between 9th and 10th place as strugglers MI and LSG face each other in Mumbai.
LSG have played 8 games compared to MI’s 9 games and have 4 points at this stage. So, a crucial game for both teams and catching up to do for LSG. MI are out of the tournament almost. Let’s see how Monday night turns out in Mumbai.
