The Netherlands easily defeated Namibia by 7 wickets with 12 balls remaining due to a solid overall team performance in a one-sided group stage match at T20 World Cup. Namibia struggled to establish any sort of rhythm while batting first after scoring 156 runs on 20 overs.
The Dutch made quick work of the target, easily surpassing 159/3 in just 18 overs due in large part to Bas de Leede’s unbeaten 72 runs. This win also confirmed the Netherlands impressive record as a chasing team (8 out of their 11 wins have come while batting second) and further illustrated Namibia’s inability to take advantage of an ideal surface for batting.
Namibia Innings
Powerplay (Overs 1-6): Slow Start, but Still Steady
With Steenkamp going for six after an unsuccessful stumping attempt off Aryan Dutt, the openers were able to post a total of 40/1. Frylinck scored a six during his inning, but Max and Jacob’s runs per over were 6-7, indicating that Namibia needed to insert some long hitters into their side.

Middle Overs (Overs 7-14): Partnership, but Frequent Loss of Wickets
Frylinck (30 from 26) with Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (42 from 38) formed a strong second wicket partnership of 50 runs, which helped put Namibia over the 60 mark. Loftie-Eaton survived several dropped catches and several reviews and had the assistance of Gerhard Erasmus, who hit a quick 18 (with a six).

But Logan van Beek (2-13) and Bas de Leede (2-20) put an end to key partnerships when Frylinck edged a ball to the wicketkeeper and Erasmus was caught at mid-wicket, and Loftie-Eaton was caught at long-on, leaving Namibia 107/4. JJ Smit was able to score two sixes in a couple of overs, but the cluster of wickets falling restricted them to approximately 7-8 runs per over.
Death Overs (Overs 15-20): Big Finish Falls Well Short
Namibia finished with 125/4 at the time of Smit’s innings but lost 4 wickets in the last 31 runs, including run-out of Ruben Trumpelmann and Willeen Myburgh. Zane Green was able to chip in with a useful 9 runs, but the innings ended with as many as 156/8. The absence of a solid all-around hitter, and poor running, cost Namibia at least 15-20 runs, which made this an under-par score on a flat pitch.
Netherlands Innings
The Netherlands attacked with intent and execution through pursuing a run chase aggressively.
Power Play (Overs 1-6) – A Merciless Start
Michael Levitt (28 from 15 balls with three sixes) and Max O’Dowd gave the team a quick start of 50/2, with Michael hitting Smit and Trumpelmann for sixes before he was caught out, all before the team had a run-rate above 8 rpo, even though Scholtz had managed an early breakthrough by taking O’Dowd’s wicket at 7 runs.
Middle Overs (Overs 7-14) – Bas de Leede and Colin Ackermann Dominate
Bas de Leede (72* from 48) and Colin Ackermann (32 from 28) put together a significant 70-run partnership for the third wicket. De Leede began to accelerate with several powerful shots, with sixes coming from both Erasmus and Heingo, while Colin swept very effectively.

While Trumpelmann (1-30) and Scholtz (1-27) bowled well, they allowed runs to be scored, and could not break up the partnership until Loftie-Eaton got Ackermann out when the score was 116 runs for 3 wickets. De Leede scored his fifty and continued to have momentum.
Death Overs (Overs 15-18) – An Excellent Finish
Scott Edwards (18 from 9) faced Loftie-Eaton and attacked him for sixes and fours (21 runs in Loftie-Eaton’s last over) as the two dove into offensive runs to finish the innings in a hurry and finished the match at 8.83 rpo.
