Ryan Rickelton stole the show as his unbeaten 113 off 60 balls helped MI Cape Town complete the double over Joburg Super Kings winning the contest by 36 runs. Ryan Rickelton looked like a man possessed after his snub from the T20 World Cup squad and was determined to prove a point to everyone. Rickelton carried his bat and scored an unbeaten 113 off 60 balls and with the help of his opening partner Rassie van der Dussen powered MI Cape Town to 234/3 in 20 overs.
The Joburg Super Kings tried to put up a spirited chase in the absence of Faf du Plessis as the Super Kings skipper injured himself while fielding and did not come out to bat later on. James Vince made 77 off 43 balls while Dian Forrester made an unbeaten 80 off 42 balls as the Super Kings came close and finished with 198/5 in 20 overs. But they fell short by 36 runs. Ryan Rickelton was awarded the Player of the Match. Super Kings stayed in 2nd place while MI Cape Town climbed upwards to 5th in the table with 10 points from 7 games.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton came out to open the innings for MI Cape Town while Daniel Worrall had ball in hand for the Super Kings. The MI Cape Town were on a roll from the get go as 20 runs were scored off the first over of the innings bowled by Worrall. It was the Ryan Rickelton show as Rassie played second fiddle and complimented him really well.
The MICT were off the blocks and dominated the powerplay. They scored 67 runs in the powerplay for the loss of 0 wickets. They carried that on into the middle phase with Rassie also matching stroke for stroke to Rickelton as the opening stand dominated the Super Kings bowlers. The duo batted for more than 10 overs and put on a century stand to set the base for a huge score. They put on 129 for the first wicket in just over 10 overs before Rassie was finally dismissed for 65 off 32 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes to his name to Daniel Worrall. Nicholas Pooran came out to bat next.
Pooran too played himself in and built a nice stand with Rickelton who looked unstoppable at the other end. Pooran was happy to play second fiddle to Rickelton. The duo added 34 runs for the second wicket before Pooran fell for 14 off 13 balls to Worrall again. Jason Smith came out to bat next. Just 5 runs were added to the score before Smith fell cheaply for 2 off 6 balls to Donovan Ferreira. Karim Janat came out to bat with the score at 168/3 in 15.2 overs to join Rickelton in the middle.
Janat played his part but the innings and the moment was all about the southpaw as he dominated proceedings 8 days after being snubbed by the South African selectors for the World Cup. The duo of Rickelton and Janat aced the death overs phase with adding 66 runs in 29 balls with Janat playing his part while Rickelton completed his ton and thereby carried his bat as well. MI Cape Town ended with a mammoth 234/3 in 20 overs at Johannesburg with Ryan Rickelton unbeaten on 113 off 60 balls with 8 fours and 9 sixes to his name while Janat was unbeaten on 20 off 11 balls with one four and two sixes to his name. As many as 20 extras given by the fielding side.
It was a hard day out for the Super Kings bowlers with Daniel Worrall recovering from a 20-run over and finishing with 2/37 in 4 overs. Donovan Ferreira finished with 1/31 in 3 overs. Akeal Hosein finished with 0/21 in 2 overs. Prenelan Subrayen finished with 0/38 in 3 overs. Nandre Burger went for 53 runs in 4 overs. Wiaan Mulder went for 49 runs in 4 overs. Captain Faf du Plessis injured himself while fielding and was unavailable to bat in the chase. The target for the Super Kings was a mammoth 235 runs in 20 overs.

Chasing 235 for the win, James Vince and Michael Pepper came out to open for Joburg Super Kings while Trent Boult had ball in hand for MI Cape Town. The Super Kings got off to a shaky start as the opening duo put on 15 for the first wicket in two overs before Pepper fell for 2 off 5 balls to Kagiso Rabada. Matthew de Villiers came out to bat next. James Vince carried on the heavy lifting and scored from the other end. The duo for the second wicket added 15 more runs before de Villiers fell for 4 off 6 balls to George Linde.
Wiaan Mulder came out to bat next. Just 5 more runs were added to the score before Mulder fell for a silver duck to Kagiso Rabada. Dian Forrester came out to bat to join Vince in the middle. The score was 35/3 inside 5 overs and the powerplay score for the Super Kings was 47/3 in 6 overs and in some trouble. The duo of Vince and Forrester tried to rescue and rebuild proceedings for the Super Kings but it was always going to be a tall order. The duo played through the middle phase as well the initial phase as we call it.
Vince completed his half-century and carried on from there on to get a significant score. The duo of Vince and Forrester put on 66 for the 4th wicket before Vince fell for 77 off 43 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes to his name to George Linde. Donovan Ferreira came out to bat next to join Forrester in the middle. Ferreira was off the blocks as well while Forrester looked good as well to show some promise to the Super Kings fans. The duo of Forrester and Ferreira added exactly 50 runs for the 5th wicket before Ferreira fell for 22 off 15 balls with 2 fours and one six to his name.
Akeal Hosein came out to bat next with just about 4 overs left in the game. Forrester and Hosein made sure that there were no further wickets lost for the Super Kings but they were way off the target. The duo added an unbeaten 47 off 25 balls out of which Hosein made only 5 off 7 balls. Forrester played a lone hand and scored an unbelievable 80 off 42 balls and remained unbeaten till the end. Forrester’s innings was laced with 4 fours and 5 sixes to his name as the Super Kings ended with 198/5 in 20 overs. 8 extras were given by the fielding side.
George Linde was the pick of the bowlers for MI Cape Town with figures of 2/30 in 4 overs. Kagiso Rabada finished with 2/34 in 4 overs. Corbin Bosch finished with 1/51 in 4 overs. Trent Boult finished with 0/49 in 4 overs. Rashid Khan the captain finished with 0/34 in 4 overs. So, MI Cape Town win by 36 runs to climb upwards to 5th in the points table while Super Kings stayed in 2nd place. Ryan Rickelton was awarded the Player of the Match Award.
