West Indies levelled the series 1-1 with an amazing victory in a thriller in the second ODI in Mirpur, Dhaka. West Indies came out all guns blazing and hung in there till the end and thanks to Shai Hope’s efforts, they won the match in the super over. After losing the toss, they restricted Bangladesh to 213/7 despite Soumya Sarkar’s 45 and Rishad Hossain’s cameo of 39* off 14 balls as 5 spinners bowled for West Indies with Gudakesh Motie taking 3 wickets and Akeal Hosein, and Alick Athanaze 2 wickets apiece.
In the chase, the innings of West Indies revolved around Shai Hope as his unbeaten 53 kept the West Indies in the chase and in the end we went to the Super Over despite Rishad picking up 3 wickets and Tanvir Islam, Nasum Ahmed picking up 2 wickets apiece. The game went to the Super Over and there West Indies scored 10/1 in 6 balls while Bangladesh made 9/1 in 6 balls as a run separated them to level the series 1-1.
Soumya Sarkar & Rishad Hossain help Bangladesh post a competitive 213/7
Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar came out to bat for Bangladesh while Akeal Hosein had ball in hand for West Indies. Hosein started with a quiet first over. Roston Chase had ball in hand from the other end. Sarkar hit the first boundary of the innings as he laced it over extra cover for a boundary. Chase gave away 4 byes as bonus to the batting side. Hosein continued and bowled a quiet over.
Sarkar was adventurous as he reverse swept Chase over backward point for a boundary. Saif broke the shackles as he got down to one knee and slog swept it over deep midwicket for the maximum. But Hosein hit back and got rid of Saif for 6 off 16 balls with a maximum to her name. Hosein bowled fuller length outside off-stump drifting in. Saif came forward to defend and he got an outside edge to Greaves at slip. Towhid Hridoy came out to bat next.
Chase continued and bowled a maiden over. Hosein bowled a maiden over as well. Hridoy broke the shackles by climbing onto Chase by hitting him for back-to-back boundaries past slip fielder and then over mid-on as well. Hosein bowled a no ball but the free hit yielded no runs. Khary Pierre came into the attack to bowl the final over of powerplay and bowled a decent over. Bangladesh at the end of the first powerplay were 40/1 in 10 overs.
Gudakesh Motie came into the attack post the powerplay and he struck for the West Indies removing Hridoy for 12 off 19 balls with 2 fours to her name. Motie bowled full outside off-stump. Hridoy looked to slog it over midwicket but only got a thick outside edge to backward point where Hosein took the catch. Najmul Hossain Shanto came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway. Chase continued as Shanto creamed it through mid-off for a boundary.
Motie continued as the 50 came up for Bangladesh in 12.2 overs. Chase bowled a maiden over. Motie continued as Shanto drilled it through mid-off for a boundary. Chase continued and bowled a tight over. Sarkar took the attack to Motie as he went inside out to loft it over deep extra cover for the maximum. Alick Athanaze came into the attack next and got rid of Shanto for 15 off 21 balls with 2 fours to his name.
Athanaze bowled a short ball outside off-stump, Shanto picked the length early and rocked onto the back foot as he went for the pull shot but failed to control it. Brandon King moved to his left from mid-on and took the catch. Drinks was taken at this stage after which Mahidul Islam Ankon came to bat. Khary Pierre came back into the attack as Ankon hit him for a boundary by going down on one knee and swept it across the line to the deep midwicket fence. Athanaze bowled another miserly over as Bangladesh reached 74/3 in 20 overs.

Athanaze kept things tight from one end. Pierre bowled another decent over as Bangladesh reached 88/3 in 25 overs at the halfway stage of the innings.

Athanaze bowled full and tossed up at the leg stump. Ankon got down on one knee and went for the slog across the line. He failed to time it and it went straight down the throat of deep square leg where Sherfane Rutherford took the catch. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz came out to bat next.
Akeal Hosein came back into the attack. He bowled a quiet over. Sarkar finally managed to get Athanaze away by hitting a boundary by shuffling across and played the reverse sweep to backward point region for a boundary as the 100 came up for Bangladesh in 29.3 overs. There was an appeal for Stumping against Sarkar, but Athanaze overstepped and the free hit that followed yielded only a single. At the completion of 30 overs, Bangladesh were 103/4.
Akeal Hosein got the breakthrough as he got rid of Sarkar for 45 off 89 balls with 3 fours and a maximum to his name. Hosein bowled full on the off-stump that turned in a shade, Sarkar got down on one knee and went for the slog across the line and didn’t get it from the middle of the bat and the ball carried to deep midwicket as Pierre took the catch. Nasum Ahmed came out to bat next and got off the mark. Athanaze bowled a maiden over.

Pierre continued after the break and bowled a decent over. Motie continued as Nasum broke the shackles by muscling it over long-on down the ground for the maximum. But Motie hit back and got rid of Nasum for 14 off 26 balls with a maximum to his name. Motie bowled slightly short and turning in from around the wicket as the ball stuck in the surface as Nasum miscued his attempted flick shot. He closed the bat face early and got a leading edge where the ball ballooned towards short midwicket where Pierre took the catch. Nurul Hasan came out to bat next.
Pierre continued and bowled a miserly over as at the completion of 40 overs, Bangladesh were 131/6. Motie continued as Nurul rocked back and pull it over deep midwicket for the maximum. Nurul was then dropped by Greaves as he got a reprieve off Motie. Nurul Hasan added salt to the wounds as he rocked back to the short ball and pulled it disdainfully to the left of deep midwicket for a boundary. Chase continued and bowled a decent over.
Khary Pierre came back into the attack and bowled a miserly over. Chase continued as Nurul hung back and flat batted it over the bowler’s head for a boundary. The 150 came up for Bangladesh in 43.3 overs. Akeal Hosein returned to the bowling crease as Miraz took toll of the short ball and cut it away between point and backward point for a boundary. Miraz was then dropped by Brandon King off Hosein as the Bangladesh captain got a reprieve. At the conclusion of 45 overs, Bangladesh were 160/6.

Gudakesh Motie returned to the bowling crease and he removed Nurul Hasan for 23 off 24 balls with 2 fours and a maximum to his name. Motie bowled a length delivery on off-stump. Nurul looked to work it on the leg side but got a leading edge that went to the left of the bowler. Motie took a simple catch of his own bowling. Rishad Hossain came out to bat next.
Pierre continued and bowled a decent over and concluded his wicketless spell. Roston Chase came back into the attack. Rishad climbed onto Chase’s poor ball down the leg side as he got a feather by flicking it away to short fine leg for a boundary. Motie came to bowl the 49th over. Rishad took him on as he rocked back and pulled it away to wide long-on for a boundary. Rishad was not done yet as he went down on one knee and smashed it over deep midwicket for the maximum. Two balls later, Rishad shuffled across and slogged it over deep midwicket for the maximum as 18 runs came off the 49th over.
Akeal Hosein was tasked to bowl the final over as Rishad cleared his front leg and smashed it over long-on for the maximum. The 200 came up for Bangladesh now in 49.1 overs. Rishad was on a roll as he cleared his front leg and hacked it over left of midwicket for a boundary. Rishad was dropped off the final ball of the innings by Keacy Carty at extra cover who made a meal of it. 16 runs off the final over as Bangladesh finished with a competitive 213/7 in 50 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was unbeaten on 32 off 58 balls with one four to her name while Rishad Hossain scored an unbeaten 39 off 14 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes to her name. 10 extras given by West Indies bowlers.
Five bowlers used by West Indies and all by spinners. Gudakesh Motie’s figures were spoilt by his expensive last over as he finished with 3/65 in 10 overs. Alick Athanaze was the pick of the bowlers in terms of economy as he finished with 2/14 in 10 overs. Akeal Hosein bowled well for his 2/41 in 10 overs. Roston Chase bowled well for his 0/44 in 10 overs while Khary Pierre finished with 0/43 in 10 overs. This meant West Indies needed 214 to win the contest off 50 overs to level the series 1-1.
Shai Hope’s unbeaten half-century ties the game; West Indies win in Super Over to level series 1-1
Chasing 214 for the win, Alick Athanaze and Brandon King walked out to bat for West Indies while Nasum Ahmed had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Nasum struck in the first over as he removed King for a golden duck. Nasum from around the wicket bowled full and on the middle stump turned away a touch. King got down on one knee and missed the sweep. He got pinned on the front pad. Big appeal and up went the finger. King reviewed in hope and saw three reds on ball tracking. King burnt a review in the process. Keacy Carty came out to bat next and got off the mark with a triple.
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz came onto bowl from the other end. He bowled a miserly first over to start his spell. Nasum continued and kept things tight. Miraz bowled a miserly over. Nasum hardly gave anything away. Miraz continued as Athanaze broke the shackles by going inside out by making room and went over extra cover for a boundary. Carty joined in the fun as he launched it down the ground off Miraz over long-off for the maximum.
Nasum continued as Athanaze cleared his front leg and drilled it down the ground past mid-on for a boundary. Mustafizur Rahman came into the attack next. The Fizz started with an excellent first over. Nasum continued as Carty made room on the leg side and drove it inside out past cover point for a boundary. Fizz continued and bowled a miserly over as Bangladesh after the completion of first powerplay of 10 overs were 34/1.
Tanvir Islam was introduced into the attack after the powerplay. Tanvir bowled a tight first over. The Fizz continued and kept things tight. Athanaze finally broke the shackles by playing the reverse sweep to beat short third man for a boundary. Rishad Hossain came into the attack next as Athanaze got down on one knee and swept it all along the carpet for a boundary to deep square leg. The duo put on 50 run partnership. Rishad then removed Athanaze for 28 off 42 balls with 4 fours to her name.
Rishad bowled full on the middle stump, Athanaze got down on one knee for the sweep but missed it as the ball hit the front pad. The appeal is given OUT. The batter reviewed the call. Ball Tracking showed three reds and the decision remained as West Indies lost the review. Ackeem Auguste came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.
Tanvir continued as Auguste hung back and cut it to deep point for a boundary. Carty joined the party as he took the aerial route and lofted it over mid-on for a boundary. Rishad continued and bowled a decent over. Miraz returned and bowled another decent over. Rishad also kept things and bowled a quiet over. West Indies were 72/2 in 18 overs when we paused for Drinks Break, the first of the innings.
Miraz returned to the attack and bowled a quiet over. Rishad too kept things tight. Tanvir Islam came back to the crease and bowled another quiet over. Rishad struck again for Bangladesh as he removed Carty for 35 off 59 balls with 2 fours and a maximum to his name. Rishad bowled full and on the off-stump. The googly that kept low and turned into the batter. Carty premeditated and looked to play the reverse paddle. He missed it completely and got hit on the back leg. He was caught in front of the stumps as a message that this will not be a straightforward series.
Shai Hope came out to bat next. He got off the mark with a boundary with a crisply driven through the covers for a boundary. Tanvir Islam continued and he got rid of Auguste for 17 off 29 balls with a boundary to his name. Tanvir bowled fuller length outside 0ff-stump turned away shade as well. Auguste got down on one knee, and failed to keep it down as the ball went flat and hard to square leg where Rishad took her eyes of the ball and held onto it. Sherfane Rutheford came out to bat next. Rishad bowled well as Hope played him out which quite well. Miraz continued and bowled literally. Miraz came and bowled really well as after 25 overs of the halfway stage, West Indies were 96/4.
Rishad continued after the break as he continued to hit fresh down the ground as the 100 came up in 25.3 overs for India. Islam struck again as he removed Rutherford for 7 off 13 balls. She bowled a length ball outside off-stump which turned in sharply and missed the bat and the full toss will be done soon. Gudakesh Motie came out to bat next.

Motie held length ball outside off-stump which Motie rocked back as punched it to deep cover point for a boundary. Saif Hassan came into the attack next. He bowled a decent over. Nasum too kept things under check. Miraz bowled a maiden over as Bangladesh reached a competitive score by scoring a majestic ton, his second for that business. West Indies were 115/5 in 30 overs.
Nasum returned as Hope took her on to make room on the leg side and chipping it to long-off and deep point for a boundary. Motie then hit Nasum crunching cover drive for a boundary. Miraz continued and bowled a quiet over. Rishad Hossain returned to the attack and got rid Motie for 15 off 21 balls with 2 fours to his name. Rishad from over the wicket bowled fuller in length that turned in as the batter cleared his front leg and looked to smash it across the line. The ball went through to clatter the stumps. Rishad continued and kept things tight as well. Nasum continued as Chase broke the shackles by the sweep shot for a boundary behind square on the leg side. Nasum got another as he removed Chase for 5 off 11 balls with a boundary to his name. Nasum bowled a length ball outside off-stump, that pitched around off-stump that turned away. Chase lunged forward to defend but may have nicked it to the keeper. The catch was taken and so was the review. The ball tracking shows three reds and the decision had to be overturned. Justin Greaves came out to bat next as West Indies were now 133/7 in 34 overs. Drinks came on the field.
Tanvir resumed after the break and bowled a tight over. Nasum bowled a quiet over as well. Tanvir was not giving anything away. Nasum bowled another good over and finished his spell. The Fizz bowled a great first over. Rishad bowled another good over as West Indies were now 150/7 in 40 overs.
The Fizz returned as Greaves broke the shackles as he hung back and opened the bat face to cut it to the left of backward point for a boundary. Tanvir continued as Hope took him on by chipping over the bowler’s head for a boundary. Rishad continued and completed his excellent outing with the ball. The Fizz continued as Greaves swivelled across and went for the pull shot and got it to the deep fine leg fence. Tanvir continued and we had a run out with Greaves being the man to go for 26 off 39 balls with 2 fours to her name. Akeal Hosein came out to bat next. Islam finishes his spell as well as the West Indies reached 177/8 in 45 overs.
Miraz bowled a tight over. The Fizz continued as Hope cleared the field and lofted it down the ground over mid-off for a boundary. 25 needed off 18 balls at this stage. Miraz continued as Hosein got into the act and launched it to nail the slog sweep over midwicket region for the maximum. The 200 came up for West Indies in 48 overs. The Fizz continued as Hope reached an invaluable fifty off 65 balls and held the innings together. Now, West Indies needed 5 off 6 balls to win this game.

But there had to be a twist with Saif being given the first ball of the over. Runs came in singles before Saif removed Hosein for 16 off 17 balls with a maximum to his name. He bowled it full and around off-stump. The ball went straight up in the air as Hosein shimmied down and went for the slog sweep and missed it for the third time as the ball sneaked through to clatter the off-stump. Khary Pierre came in with 3 needed off 1 ball.
The ball went up in the air as it got the top edge in the square leg region. Nurul ran after it with gloves on dived to make a lot of ground but dropped the catch. Pierre ran like hell to come back for the second run and we had a match tied game which would go to Super Over. Hope was unbeaten on 53 off 67 balls with 4 fours to his name while Pierre remained unbeaten on 2 off 1 ball as they finished on exactly at 213/9 in 50 overs. 9 extras given by the fielding side.
Rishad Hossain was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/42 in 10 overs. Nasum Ahmed finished with 2/38 in 10 overs. Tanvir Islam finished with 2/42 in 10 overs. Saif Hassan bowled 2 overs for 9 runs and a wicket. Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished with 0/38 in 10 overs. Mustafizur Rahman finished with 0/40 in 8 overs. The match was tied and we went to the super over.
In the Super Over, Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford came out to bat for West Indies and Mustafizur Rahman had ball in hand for Bangladesh. The Fizz dismissed Rutherford for a golden duck. The batter slapped it to deep point off the short ball as he took the catch.

Brandon King came out to bat next and got a brace. Hope came on strike and managed to get a boundary away with the top edge that flew to third man fence. West Indies ended with 10/1 in 6 balls leaving Bangladesh needing 11 to win off 6 balls.
For Bangladesh, Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan came out to bat while Akeal Hosein came out to bowl for West Indies in Super over. The over started with wides and no balls but free hit did not yield anything. Sarkar fell off the 4th ball of the super over for 3 off 3 balls as he was holed out to Motie at deep backward square leg.

Najmul Hossain Shanto came out to bat next and got a leg bye. Saif needed 3 off the final ball but got only a single as Akeal held his nerve and West Indies won this game via super over to level the series 1-1. West Indies captain Shai Hope was awarded the Player of the Match.
What Lies Ahead
So, West Indies have levelled the series under dramatic circumstances as they levelled the series at 1-1. The decider will now be at the same venue on 23rd October 2025 at 1 PM IST.
