Rishad Hossain while Bangladesh batting first chipped in with the bat as he scored an invaluable 26 off 13 balls alongside half-century from Towhid Hridoy and Ankon’s 46 on debut that helped Bangladesh get 207 in 49.4 overs on a challenging track.
While defending the score, Rishad spun a web and put on a show for the ages for Bangladesh as he picked up the first 5 wickets of the innings to complete a five-wicket haul and picked up the last wicket of the match as he finished with 6/35 in 9 overs. The others chipped in as West Indies were bowled out for 133 in 39 overs. Bangladesh win the game by 74 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series with 2 games to spare in the series.
Towhid Hridoy & Mahidul Islam Ankon helps Bangladesh get to 207 in 49.4 overs
Put into bat first, Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar came out to bat for Bangladesh while Jayden Seales had ball in hand for West Indies. Saif got off the mark with a triple. Sarkar got off the mark as well with a boundary by flicking it through vacant square leg region for a boundary. Romario Shepherd came onto bowl from the other end. He got the first breakthrough for West Indies getting rid of Saif for 3 off 6 balls.
Shepherd bowled a good length delivery pitching outside the off-stump that nipped back into middle and leg stump. Saif was planting his front foot and looked to defend and played slightly with an angled bat and got beaten on the inside edge and hit on the front pad. The appeal was given as Saif decided not to review. Najmul Hossain Shanto came out to bat next. Seales struck next as he got rid of Sarkar for 4 off 6 balls with a boundary to her name.
Seales from around the wicket bowled full and outside off-stump. Sarkar was lunging forward and opened the bat face to play an expansive square drive. She ended up slicing it aerially to the backward point fielder. Chase timed his jump to perfection and took a two-handed catch. Towhid Hridoy came out to batĀ next. Hridoy managed to get a boundary off Seales through mid-on as the misfielding allowed the boundary.
Hridoy survived a run out scare as he had to dive full length but the throw missed the stumps. Seales continued as Hridoy flashed and flashed hard to fly over slips for a streaky boundary. Khary Pierre came back into the attack. He delivered another quiet over. Motie cahnged ends. Shanto then got a boundary for Bangladesh after 69 balls by driving down the ground to beat mid-off for a boundary. Hridoy then played the paddle sweep through fine leg for a boundary. Pierre got his first wicket as he removed Shanto for 32 off 63 balls with 3 fours to her name.
Pierre from over the wicket bowled a good length delivery on the off-stump that turns in viciously to beat Shanto’s sweep and crashed into the front pad. The umpire gave it NOT OUT, but West Indies reviewed it. Ball Tracking showed three reds and Shanto had to depart thanks to great usage of DRS. Mahidul Islam Ankon on debut came to bat next. Motie continued and bowled another quiet over. Pierre appealed for LBW against Ankon but the ball was doing too much and the decision stayed as West Indies lost a review. At the end of 25 overs at the halfway stage of the innings, Bangladesh were 84/3.

Justin Greaves came into the attack next. He started with a quiet over. Bangladesh were 110/3 in 33 overs when players paused for the second Drinks Break. Chase continued after the break as Hridoy completed his 11th ODI fifty and his first vs West Indies and he got there in 87 balls. Greaves continued and got rid of Hridoy for 51 off 90 balls with 3 fours to his name thanks to a successful usage of DRS.
Greaves bowled a good length delivery outside the off-stump. Hridoy threw his bat at it and was a bit late to attempt the stroke. Replays came in and there was a bottom edge on the ball. Great review as the decision was changed to OUT. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway. Bangladesh reached 116/4 in 35 overs. Bangladesh got to 150 in 41.5 overs as Miraz rocked back and cut the bowler through backward point for a boundary. Pierre bowled another good over and finished a miserly spell. Chase returned to the attack and got rid of Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 17 off 27 balls with 2 fours to her name.
Chase bowled a good length delivery on the leg stump. Miraz went for the big slog sweep over backward square leg but failed to get the distance on it as he picked out Greaves in the deep who put in the dive to take the catch. Nurul Hasan came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway. Shepherd returned to the attack as Ankon planted his front foot and lifted him over mid-off to send crashing into the ropes. Ankon attempted a wild slog sweep but failed to connect and the ball spun past to knock the stumps. Rishad Hossain came out to bat next and got off the mark. Chase completed his nice spell as well.
Shepherd continued as Rishad got a lucky boundary by an inside edge past Hope for a boundary. Greaves came back into the attack as Rishad got a triple to get off strike. Greaves then removed Nurul Hasan for 9 off 10 balls. He bowled a good length delivery on the off-stump. Hasan miscued a big loft high in the sky. He failed to read the slower one, and it travelled straight down the throat of Pierre at long-on. Tanvir Islam came out to bat next and got off the mark as well. Rishad took on Greaves as he slammed it down the ground over long-on for the maximum.
Seales came to bowl the 49th over as Rishad took him on by swivelling and pulling it over deep square leg for the maximum. Seales hit back and got rid of Rishad for 26 off 13 balls with one four and 2 sixes to his name as the cameo came to an end. Seales bowled a yorker on the stumps right in the blockhole. Rishad tried to get his bat down in time but failed as the ball sneaked past to crash onto the stumps. Taskin Ahmed came out to bat next and fell first ball for a golden duck.

Seales from around the wicket bowled a good length delivery on the off-stump. Taskin played a lame loft towards cover where Athanaze was present to take a simple catch. Mustafizur Rahman came out to bat at 11 and survived the hat-trick ball as Bangladesh reached 198/9 in 49 overs. Romario Shepherd came to bowl the final over of the innings. Tanvir took her on and heaved it away over deep midwicket for the maximum as the 200 came up in 49.1 overs.
Mustafizur was run out for 1 off 2 balls. Tanvir wanted the second run to keep the strike but the Fizz failed to get home at the bowler’s end as 1 run was completed. Pierre threw it well with an accurate throw. Bangladesh were bowled out for 207 in 49.4 overs. Gudakesh Motie finished with 0/44 in 10 overs. It now meant that West Indies needed 208 runs to win off 50 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series on a challenging surface.

Chasing 208 for the win, Brandon King and Alick Athanaze came out to bat for West Indies while Taskin Ahmed had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Taskin started with a maiden. Tanvir Islam had ball in hand from the other end. He too started with a maiden over. King finally broke the shackles as he hit Taskin for a boundary through mid-off to kickstart the innings. King joined into the act as he launched Taskin over cow corner for the maximum.
Athanaze got into the attack by sweeping Tanvir past short fine leg for a boundary. He nailed the sweep again through backward square leg for a boundary. Athanaze then took on Tanvir and lofted it over long-on for the maximum and the final ball was swept along the ground through forward square leg for a boundary.
Mustafizur Rahman came into the attack next. King took him on by cutting him between point and deep third man for a boundary. Tanvir bowled a decent over. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz came into the attack next. He started his spell with a maiden over. Mustafizur also kept the run scoring under check. Miraz continued and bowled another good over. The Fizz continued to bowl the final over of powerplay and kept things under check. At the end of 10 overs, at the end of first powerplay West Indies were 45/0 and off to a steady start in the chase.
Miraz continued after the powerplay and bowled a good over. Rishad Hossain was introduced into the attack next. The 50 came up for West Indies and of the partnership in 11.1 overs. King got a reprieve as Shanto put down a tough chance at short extra cover. Rishad provided the breakthrough for Bangladesh removing Athanaze for 27 off 36 balls with 3 fours and a maximum to his name.
Rishad bowled a full length leggie on the middle stump. Athanaze was forward and looked to nudge across the line and got beaten on the inside edge and was hit on the front pad. Looked plumb and the finger went up. King had a chat with Athanaze and sent it upstairs. Ball Tracking showed three reds. The decision stood and the review was lost by West Indies. Keacy Carty came out to bat next. King survived a close stumping chance as he got his foot back in time off Islam.
King then got down on one knee and played the sweep to hit it behind square on the leg side for a boundary. Rishad continued as King stayed leg side and drove a beautiful cover drive for a boundary. Islam continued as Carty was next put down by keeper Nurul who was late to react and managed a fingertip. King hit Rishad for another boundary by staying back and played it late to guide it between slip and backward point for a boundary. Tanvir bowled another quiet over.
Rishad continued and bowled another quiet over. Miraz returned and bowled another quiet over. Rishad finally got the breakthrough again as he removed Carty for 9 off 30 balls. Rishad bowled a well flighted leg break on a full length outside the off-stump dipped in and spun away from the right-hander. Carty was lunging forward for an expansive drive and lost his shape. He was not to the pitch of the ball and got a healthy outside edge which carried safely to Saif Hassan at slip. Captain Shai Hope came out to bat next. West Indies were 79/2 in 20 overs.

Tanvir continued and bowled a quiet over. Rishad was on a roll as he removed the set batter King for 44 off 60 balls with 5 fours and a maximum to his name. Rishad bowled from over the wicket a leg spinner full on the middle stump and turned away. King was hanging back in the crease to block it with an angled bat. The ball kissed the tiny bit of outside edge and went to the keeper. Nurul fumbled but managed to grab it on the second attempt before tumbling forward. Sherfane Rutherford came out to bat next. Sherfane suffered a LBW scare by not offering a shot as the ball tracking showed missing the stumps. Bangladesh lost a review as well now. But Rishad had his man next ball as Rutherford went for a bronze duck.

He got an outside edge as he played inside the line and Nurul took a sharp catch behind the stumps. Roston Chase came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway. Tanvir returned and bowled a miserly over. Rishad continued and completed his five-wicket haul as he dismissed Chase for 6 off 10 balls.

Chase rocked back and looked to punch through extra cover getting the ball very close to the outside edge and settling in the gloves of Nurul. There was a massive appeal and the umpire gave it OUT. The batter reviewed and the Ultra Edge showed a spike to the outside edge. West Indies lost both their reviews now. Gudakesh Motice came out to bat next. Miraz came back into the attack and bowled a decent over. West Indies were now struggling at 95/5 in 25 overs at the halfway stage of the tournament.
Saif Hassan came into the attack next. She bowled a decent over. Miraz to continue and he appealed against Motie for LBW and was not given. Guess what, Bangladesh reviewed and decision stood. Both teams had now lost both the reviews. Saif continued as the 100 came up for West Indies in 27.5 overs. Miraz then got rid of Motie for 3 off 14 balls.
Miraz bowled from around the wicket an arm ball full on the middle and leg skidding through. Motie was hanging back to a relatively full ball and missed getting bat on ball as he looked to block. The ball went past the inside edge and hit the front pad. They all went up and so did the finger. Justin Greaves came out to bat next and got off the mark. Rishad came back as Greaves swung hard and whipped it away to short midwicket and deep square leg. After the completion of 30 overs, West Indies were struggling now at 108/6.
Miraz continued and bowled a miserly over. Tanvir continued as HopeĀ spread deep in the crease and got down on one knee and reverse swept it over short third man for a boundary. Saif Hassan returned to the attack. He too kept things tight. Tanvir got rid of the big fish as captain Shai Hope had to depart for 15 off 32 balls with a boundary to her name.
Tanvir from around the wicket bowled a full ball pitching on the middle stump. The ball gripped and turned away as has been the norm in this pitch. Hope was not doing anything wrong as he got onto the front foot to defend and got a faint tickle off the gloves on way to the keeper. Drinks was taken at this stage with Romario Shepherd coming to the crease next.
He got off the mark soon. Tanvir finished his spell. Mustafizur Rahman was brought back into the attack. He removed Shepherd for 1 off 2 balls. Fizz from over the wicket bowled a back of a length delivery at the off-stump. Shepherd saw how perilious the spinners can be and he tried to take his chance against the pacer. He went for the pull despite there’s a lack of room there. He got a huge leading edge and the mid-off fielder took the easy catch. Khary Pierre came out to bat next and got off the mark. West Indies were struggling at 122/8 in 35 overs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz came back into the attack. He bowled a maiden over. The Fizz got into the act and got rid of Greaves for 12 off 23 balls with a boundary to his name. Mustafizur used the change in pace which was the off-cutter. The length ball on the middle and leg stump. Greaves didn’t read the slower ball and was pushing forward and was through the stroke a tad too early. He played well ahead of his front pad and got a leading edge as the ball looped in front of short midwicket. Saif didn’t pick it early, but managed to rush forward and dived to take a two-handed stunner. Fizz had his second scalp. Jayden Seales came out to bat next.
He got off the mark soon. Pierre threw his hands at the width and slapped it over backward point for a boundary. Mehidy Hasan Miraz came back into the attack and bowled a miserly over to complete his excellent spell. Rishad Hossain came back into the attack and he finished things off in style to remove Seales for 3 off 10 balls.

Seales was not happy but he could no review as Bangladesh won the match by 74 runs to go 1-0 up in the 3-match ODI series. What Lies Ahead
So, Bangladesh lead the series 1-0 with 2 matches to play. The hosts will want to seal the series 2-0 with a game to spare when both teams meet on 21st October 2025 at 1 PM IST in Mirpur, Dhaka.
