Former South Africa and Mumbai Indians player Herschelle Gibbs, and Former Sri Lankan and RCB opener Tillakaratne Dilshan have backed RCB to win the big final against PBKS and end their trophy drought.
Herschelle Gibbs
Herschelle Gibbs is a former South African cricketer who also represented Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He backed RCB to win the IPL 2025 final.
“I’m backing RCB to chase down whatever Punjab, if they bat first, to chase it down. It will be a great spectacle, I’m sure. I think everybody who loves cricket would love to see RCB get at least one title. It’s taken them forever,” said Gibbs.
He was part of the Deccan Chargers team, which beat RCB in their first finals in 2009 at the Wanderers Stadium. He played a crucial part in that victory by scoring an unbeaten 53* runs to take DCH to a respectable total.
RCB dominated PBKS in Qualifier 1. But Gibbs expects a good spectacle from both sides this time.
Tillakaratne Dilshan
He is a former Sri Lankan Opener, who also opened the innings for RCB along with Chris Gayle from 2011 to 2013. He was part of the squad that made it to the finals of 2011, where they lost to Chennai Super Kings. He also backed RCB to end their trophy drought this year.
“I think they are performing well throughout the tournament. My wishes to Virat and the team. First IPL title to go to Bengaluru, and their fans are going to enjoy tomorrow night,” said Dilshan.
He also reminded, that he backed them to win the trophy before the start of the tournament. He extended his wishes for Virat Kohli to bring the trophy to Bengaluru.
PBKS’s journey to the final
RCB might have had a one sided encounter against them in the Qualifier 1, but PBKS are coming after chasing 204 runs in just 19 overs against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the same ground. They have played two matches at Ahmedabad this season have won both.
RCB has not played at this stadium at this season yet. They conquered all the away matches by winning 7 out of 7 away games, which is a record in IPL. They have only one away game left to conquer the trophy.
