RR vs CSK : Reasons For CSK’s Defeat Against RR

RR‘s middle-order duo Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel finally managed to finish the chase successfully in their last league match. RR chased down 188 runs in 17.1 overs with 6 wickets in hand. CSK faced another one-sided defeat. This season has been the most disappointing one for them. Let’s look at the reasons for CSK’s defeat.

Early wickets

It was a good batting track in Delhi where 200 looked like a par score. But, CSK batters rushed for runs in the powerplay and threw their wickets playing unwanted shots. all the wickets of Devon Conway ( 10 off 8 ), Urvil Patel ( 0 off 2 ),  Ravindra Jadeja ( 1 off 5 ) and Ravichandran Ashwin are soft dismissals. They gifted their wickets with wrong shot selection.

Ayush Mhatre did a fine job in the powerplay by scoring 43 runs off just 20 balls. CSK lost 5 wickets for 78 runs in 7.4 overs. Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube rescued the team from there. Shivam Dube played the anchor role, and Brevis attacked in the middle overs.

Still, they couldn’t show complete aggression as they lost half of their side.

Poor batting at death

Dewald Brevis was dismissed for 42 runs in 25 balls when the score was 137/6 in 13.4 overs. He set the stage for Dhoni and Dube to take the score to 200. But the duo failed terribly in their death. The pitch became a bit slower when the ball became old, and the batters couldn’t time the ball well.

Akash Madhwal executed his yorkers perfectly. The batters didn’t have any answers for it. CSK scored just 28 runs in the last four overs, and finished with 187/8 in 20 overs. Akash Madhwal completed his spell with the numbers of 4-29-3. He took the three important wickets of Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni. He turned the match towards RR in the death overs.

Clueless bowling

CSK are already 20 runs short with the bat. But their bowlers couldn’t compensate it. The ball was swinging well in the first 2 overs. Jaiswal and Vaibhav survived it. They scored just 12 runs in the first 2 overs. Khaleel and Anshul bowled at the prefect lengths but unfortunately ended up with no wicket.

In the 3rd over when the ball stopped swinging much, Jaiswal took charge against Khaleel and scored 19 runs in that over. Khaleel was not effective when the ball stopped swinging and he gave width for Jaiswal to swing his bat. But, Anshul backed his line and length and clean bowled Jaiswal ( 36 off 19 ) in the fourth over.

CSK took just one wicket in the powerplay. RR won the powerplay phase there. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was quit in the powerplay but took charge once the spinners came into the play. Suryvanshi and Sanju Smason partnership sealed the game for RR.

Both of them counter attacked spinners and didn’t allow any of the spinners to settle. Finally Ahswin broke the partnership when the score went to 135 in 13.2 overs. He sent back both Samson ( 41 off 31 ) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi ( 57 off 33 ) in the same over.

RR were 138/3 in 14 overs. Ashwin bowled a quit 14th over with 3 runs and 2 wickets. CSK still had a chance in the game. But Jadeja bowled the next over and gave 11 runs. He removed all the pressure created by Ashwin.

Noor Ahmad removed Riyan Parag ( 3 off 4 ) in the 16th over. But he boundary in the very next ball after the wicket and removed the pressure. Ravichandran Ashwin came to bowl the 17th over and gave 18 runs. The match was completely over. Dhruv Jurel finished the match with a six on the first ball of Pathirana’s 18th over.

CSK took some wickets in the middle put they couldn’t contain runs and change the momentum towards them.
