ENG vs WI: “I Am Sure Harry Brook Will…..”- Adil Rashid’s Stunning Take On England White Ball Skipper

The England cricket team has hit the reset button after the ICC CT 2025 debacle. The reins of white ball cricket have been handed to the youthful Harry Brook. England’s white ball summer kicks off with an ODI series commencing against the West Indies from 29th May. There would be immense scrutiny on Harry Brook, who pulled out of IPL 2025 in order to prioritize national duty.

West Indies recently, in November, had won the ODI series by 2-1 against England. England’s squad was quite depleted during that series, with the likes of Ben Stokes & Joe Root rested to manage their workload for the Test series against New Zealand, which was in late November.

West Indies had missed out on direct qualification for the ICC ODI WC 2019 (*qualified but via qualifiers) & were knocked out in the qualifiers in the 2023 ODI WC.

I am sure Harry Brook will be a very good leader- Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid was having an interaction with Sky Sports. Adil Rashid pointed out that Harry Brook is a calm leader who can help the England team and gave an example of when Brook was leading Northern Superchargers in the Hundred. England’s veteran spinner was quite excited about the new era with Harry Brook & Brendon McCullum.

“I am sure he is ready, but when someone takes over the captaincy, it is not an overnight thing. He has got time; he has done well so far with what he has done. At Superchargers, he did well and has got a real positive mindset. He is quiet, but that is a good thing as well because he has that respect in the dressing room on and off the pitch,” said Adil Rashid.

“I am sure he will be a very good leader, and going forward, he will do wonders for England cricket. It is a big task, it is a big thing, but they gave it to him because he thinks he can be the one. We all believe he can be the leader and captain of the ODIs and T20. It will be tricky [to balance], but I am sure he has got the capability, the mindset, the hunger and drive to do that and lead England to wins and World Cups,” he stated.

“Yeah, 100 per cent looking forward to it. It is a new era, with a new captain and new faces as well, so looking forward to it. Baz McCullum is coming in, this will be his first time coaching at home as England’s white-ball head coach. An exciting challenge, a new era and looking forward to that,” he added.

Critical phase for England

It won’t be wrong to say that the ECB has been way too centric on the Ashes. Red ball skipper Ben Stokes has mentioned ‘n’ times about defeating Ashes in press conference. During the India vs England ODI series, Ben Duckett wasn’t even bothered after losing ODI series and warned India that England would beat them in the knock-out match, which didn’t happen as they were knocked out in the league stage itself.

Head coach Brendon McCullum has an ardent task of managing both white ball & red ball teams. It seems that England have moved on from Jonny Bairstow who wasn’t even considered for selection.  The ideology of ‘Bazball’ hasn’t yielded results and with T20 WC 2026 & ODI WC 2027 approaching slowly & quickly, they can’t afford to chop & change frequently.
