The remaining IPL league games are set to have an extra 120 minutes for delays. Usually, league games have only 60 minutes of extra time, and only playoff matches will have 2 extra hours. This decision has been taken by BCCI to make sure that IPL matches is completed even if at 3 or 4 AM just like IPL 2023 final of CSK vs GT where there was massive heavy rain-downfall.
Weather conditions
3 matches have been abandoned due to rain so far this season. To avoid further no results and to get a complete 20-over match, the extra hours for the league games have been extended. Even today’s clash vs MI v DC at Wankhede has high chances of getting affected due to rain, as Mumbai has been issued a yellow alert.
RCB’s last home game against SRH, which was scheduled on May 23rd at Bengaluru, has been shifted to Lucknow because heavy rains are predicted in Bengaluru. Due to the same reason, no games are scheduled at Chennai and Hyderabad in the revised schedule.
Extra scheduled time for IPL 2025 matches
According to the new extended extra time, the afternoon game, which starts at 3.30 pm and can start as late as 5.30 pm, and the evening game which starts at 7.30 pm, can start as late as 9.30 pm without any overs being lost. This is for the full 20-over match. The cut-off time for the afternoon game is 7.56 pm and same for the evening game is 11.56 pm.
All the remaining league games are starting in the evening, except the CSK vs GT clash on May 25th, which is an afternoon game. There are high chances for these games to get affected by rain. This extra time will help us to get results in every matches.
The extra cut-off time helped to get the result in the 2023 finals at Ahmedabad as well, when the second innings was reduced to 15 overs on the reserve day, and we got the result at 1.30 AM on the second match. CSK beat GT in the last ball and won their 5th IPL title. We can expect such late night matches in this season as well. The final of this season is also scheduled at Ahmedabad as well.
