CSK suffered a dominating 9-wicket defeat against MI at Wankhede yesterday. Rohit Sharma (*76 runs in 45 balls and struck 4 fours and 6 sixes) and Suryakumar Yadav (*68 runs in 30 balls and struck 6 fours and 5 sixes) destroyed the CSK bowling line-up completely. MI dictated the terms and chased down 177 target with 4.2 overs left in the match. Rohit Sharma & Suryakumar never gave any chance for CSK to come back into the game as the bowlers were whacked around the park.
Most M.O.M among Indian batters
Rohit Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match award for his match-winning knock of 76 runs from 45 balls. This was his 20th M.O.M award in IPL. He became the first Indian to win 20 MOM awards in IPL. Overall, he is the third player to achieve this record after AB De Villiers and Chris Gayle.
This was also Rohit Sharma’s 4th M.O.M award against CSK. He equaled the record of most M.O.M awards against CSK with Kieron Pollard and KL Rahul.
He also scored his 9th fifty against Chennai, sharing the record of most fifties against CSK with Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and David Warner.
Youngest Cub for CSK
Ayush Mhatre made his debut for CSK against MI at the age of 17, becoming the youngest player to make his debut for the CSK franchise. He broke the 17-year-old record of Abhinav Mukund, who made his debut for CSK at the age of 18 in 2008.
Ayush Mhatre impressed everyone in his debut by smashing 32 runs off just 15 balls. He smashed 2 sixes in 10 balls he faced inside the powerplay. Other CSK batters, who had faced 278 deliveries in the powerplay so far in this tournament, had hit only 3 sixes. This has been the story of CSK this season.
100-run partnership for MI after more than a decade
Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav made a partnership of 114 runs from 54 balls to seal the victory for the hosts. This is only the second 100-run partnership for MI against CSK at Wankhede. The first one came in 2012 when Sachin and Rohit Sharma made a 126-run partnership while chasing 174.
MI’s dominance over CSK
CSK lost the match by 9 wickets yesterday. CSK had lost the match by 9 or 10 wickets only three times in IPL. All of them came against MI.
