MS Dhoni retirement news sparked speculation after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost their third consecutive match in IPL 2025. Following the defeat to Delhi Capitals at Chepauk on Saturday (April 5), CSK head coach Stephen Fleming addressed the media but denied knowing anything about MS Dhoni’s potential retirement plans.
The 43-year-old MS Dhoni couldn’t deliver the finishing touch as expected. Walking in during the 11th over, Dhoni played 26 balls and scored 30 runs. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as CSK fell short by 25 runs while chasing 184.
MS Dhoni Retirement News: Stephen Fleming Says “I Have No Idea”
When asked about Dhoni’s retirement, Stephen Fleming told The Hindustan Times:
“No, that’s not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I’m just enjoying working with him still. He’s still going strong. I don’t even ask these days. You are the ones who ask,”
This response came amid growing buzz due to the presence of Dhoni’s parents at the stadium and his earlier failure against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati, where CSK lost by six runs.
CSK Struggles to Find Momentum, Admits Fleming
Stephen Fleming admitted that CSK never found the right rhythm in their innings against Delhi Capitals. He praised the Capitals for executing their bowling plans effectively.
“Since powerplay we were always playing the catch up game. We were too far behind and we only had one batter left. DC bowled really well and used the conditions really well. Even when Shivam Dube was batting we were looking for momentum but it just didn’t happen,”
CSK’s Current Standing
After this loss, Chennai Super Kings are positioned seventh on the IPL 2025 points table. With form slipping and key performances lacking, the team needs a strong comeback to keep playoff hopes alive. Fans are hoping for a win for the upcoming match, which will be held on 8 April 2025 at The New Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, also known as the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, located in New Chandigarh (Mullanpur).
