Amit Mishra – 17/5 vs DCH, 2008
It was in the first season of the IPL. Deccan Chargers faced Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals (DC) now). Daredevils batted first and posted 194 runs on board. A huge target to chase for DCH. DC had decent contributions from the batters but was not good enough to chase the target.
Especially Amit Mishra stopped their run flow in the middle overs with an economical spell and a couple of wickets as well. Amit finished his spell with 4-17-5. This was the first and only 5 wicket haul to date for the Delhi franchise. He was awarded the player of the match because he made a difference in the bowling. All the other DD bowlers were expensive that day.
Kuldeep Yadav – 14/4 vs KKR, 2022
This was the redemption season for Kuldeep Yadav. After KKR released him, DC bought him in the mega auction he was teaming up with his fellow Indian left arm spinner Axar Patel. This IPL season also played an important role in Kuldeep Yadav’s comeback in the Indian team.
This spell was so special that it came against the team which let him go in his tough times and in a flat pitch of Wankhede. KKR batted first and posted 146 runs on the board. DD bowlers kept it very tight as KKR never got the momentum in their innings.
Especially Kuldeep ran through the middle order and dismissed the dangerous Andre Russell for the duck. This affected the run flow in the middle order. Kuldeep picked up four wickets and just gave 14 runs. This spell will always be remembered for the comeback of India’s greatest spinner in the IPL
Morne Morkel – 20/4 vs PBKS, 2012
This match happened at Dharamshala in 2012. Punjab batted first and Umesh Yadav dismissed both of their openers cheaply. DD fast bowlers are right on the money in the pacer-friendly pitch of Dharamshala. Umesh Yadav picked 3 wickets for just 19 runs in his 4 overs and was eventually awarded the man of the match award for his performance.
Morne Morkel’s spell was also equally important as he ran through the middle order. He also broke the partnership in death overs by picking both the well-settled batters Azar Mahmood and Gurkeerat Singh in the same over. Punjab was restricted to 141 runs and DD chased the target comfortably.
Morne Morkel had a dream season in 2012 and was one of the main reasons for Delhi’s Domination in that year. He also grabbed the purple cap in 2012. He is the only Delhi bowler to achieve it to date.
