ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 New Zealand will face Uganda in their next encounter, a forgetful World Cup for Kane Williamson and Co it was a sudden surprise for everyone that New Zealand who performed well in every ICC tournament has underperformed this year, as Afghanistan have qualified for Super 8 New Zealand automatically gets knocked out of the tournament. While Uganda who have won just one game would like to end their campaign on a good note.
Journey till now: New Zealand and Uganda
New Zealand played like amateurs in this World Cup’s first match they got all-out on 75 which turned out to be a huge concern against Afghanistan then they lost against hosts West Indies and then their chances were naive and now after playing two matches being a negative net run-rate and since Afghanistan qualified New Zealand are eliminated from the tournament. Kane Williamson has lost his form openers are not contributing, the middle order is out of form, and bowlers are quite well but just depending on the bowling unit matches can’t be won. Glenn Phillips played a good knock in the last match so he can keep his form but others need to contribute. A forgetful World Cup for New Zealand to remember.
Uganda playing their first-ever ICC T20 World Cup so they were excited but being an inexperienced side they fell short against big teams like West Indies, Afghanistan, etc. Still, they managed to win one match against PNG. They are growing and will develop their cricket in upcoming future. But they have a great chance to defeat New Zealand as they don’t have any form currently so it may create a history for Uganda.
Stats:
- Frank Nsubuga’s figures of 2 for 4 against PNG were the most economical by any bowler to have completed their four-over quota in a Men’s T20 World Cup game.
- This is the first time in a decade that New Zealand has not made the semi-finals of an ODI or T20 World Cup. The last time they missed out was in 2014.
