Delhi Capitals’ (DC) asserted their dominance against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and won the contest by 20 runs. The biggest positive for DC’s management would be the rise of Prithvi Shaw who scored 43 runs in 27 balls and finally broke all of his shackles. Prithvi Shaw looked in sublime touch as he struck 4 fours and 2 sixes and stitched an invaluable opening partnership of 93 runs with David Warner.
David Warner too played a swashbuckling knock of 52 runs in 35 balls as he was looking in staggering touch. The peculiarity of DC was that the top order clicked as the skipper Rishabh Pant smashed a quick fire knock of 51 runs in 32 balls and struck 4 fours and 3 sixes. The decision to demote Mitchell Marsh down the order did wonders for the team as Prithvi Shaw got ample time at the top of the order.
DC’s next challenge is though against the flamboyant KKR on 3rd April at the same venue i.e. Vishakhapatnam which promises to be a thriller as both the teams are evenly matched. DC would be happy that they overcome the onslaught of MS Dhoni (*37 runs in 16 balls) , if the legendary batter would have come earlier to bat, who knows the result of the match would have been different.
Maybe Prithvi Shaw was hurting from within- Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag was having an interaction with Cricbuzz. Virender Sehwag pointed out the knock of Prithvi Shaw will keep in a good stead after he was benched in the previous IPL edition. There has been a lot of issues regarding whether it would be his batting or anger issues and Virender Sehwag said that Prithvi Shaw may be perhaps was hurting from within.
“Team managements will always look at whether a player is in rhythm or not in the nets when they’re batting. This innings will remind Prithvi how important an innings like this was for him. Last IPL also he was sitting out for some games, and this IPL too he was benched for the first two games. Maybe he was hurting from within. That’s where this innings probably came from,” said Virender Sehwag.
