Australia’s tour of the West Indies witnessed a historic moment on July 25, 2025 when Tim David smashed his way into the record books with a 37-ball century, the fastest T20I ton by an Australian. Tim David‘s explosive knock not only led Australia to a thrilling win but also carved serval milestones that will be remembered for years.
Fastest century for Australia in T20IS:
In the third T20I at Basseterre, Tim David powered an unbeaten 102 off 37 balls, overtaking Josh Inglis’ previous record of a 43-ball century. David reached his half century in just 16 balls, setting a new national record. Previously, the fastest Australian T20I fifty was scored in 17 balls by Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head.
Big Hitting Brilliance:
Tim David’s assault included 11 sixes, making it one of the most brutal T20I innings ever by an Australian. Only Aaron Finch who hit 14 sixes during his 156 against England in 2013, has hit more sixes in an innings for Australia . Remarkably, David smashed 10 sixes in his first 26 balls, a feat achieved by only three other Batters in all T20s.
Record Partnership with Mitchell oven:
Chasing a mammoth target of 215, David found a steady partner in Mitchell Owen. The duo put on an unbeaten 128 run partnership for the fifth wicket; the highest fifth wicket stand for Australia is in men’s T20Is and also the highest for any team in a T20I chase for the position or lower .
Unique Feats from Lower Order
Tim David also became the first Australian to score a T20I hundred while batting No. 5 or lower. All Australians’ previous T20I centuries had come from their Top four batters. Globally, only one other batter. Mark Chapman of New Zealand has scored a T20I hundred in a successful chase while batting at No. 5 or lower
Chase Completed in Record Time
Australia gunned down the target of 215 in just 16.1 overs, making it the fourth fastest 200 + chases in T20I history. Interestingly, all three faster chases have come in the year 2025, highlighting the rapid evolution of T20 batting. During the middle overs (7-16), Australia scored a jaw-dropping 146 runs, their highest in that phase of the T20IS. Out of those. David alone contributed 94 runs, which stands as the third most by any batter during the middle overs in a Men’s T20I
Tim David’s performance not only showcased his evolution from finisher to match winner but also underscored Australia’s depth and firepower in T20Is. With the T20 World Cup on his horizon, this innings might just be a sign of bigger things to come.
