Australia’s flamboyant all-rounder Glenn Maxwell missed out on the South African white ball leg series after re-aggravating his ankle injury. Glenn Maxwell has been an integral part of the side for over the decade and would be keen to stamp his authority against India in the 3-match ODI series commencing from 22nd September.

Glenn Maxwell may be promoted up the order and can be used as a floater as the side already has the services of Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh & Tim David who can all clear the fence and can be lethal on the given day. Aussies would back themselves to win the ODI WC 2023 as they have a complete squad and a lot of match winners.

I still want to play some part of that India series- Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was seen attending the BBL overseas draft and stated that he is quite optimistic of playing the upcoming Indian ODI series despite having an ankle injury. Glenn Maxwell said that the selectors & the staff have been brilliant with him and said that they have are making sure that he plays the entire ODI WC 2023.

“I still want to play some part of that India series. But I’m not feeling any pressure on it. The selectors and the staff have been brilliant with me as well. They don’t want to put too much pressure on me to sort of set that date because they know they’ve got a bit of extra time before the World Cup,” said Glenn Maxwell.

“So instead of rushing it and probably putting myself a week or two behind, being able to give myself extra time and make sure we get through the whole tournament,” he added.

Crucial series for Australia

The ODI series against India would serve as a stepping stone for the mighty Aussies. We should not forget that Aussies had won the series in March 2023 by 3-2 against all odds under the leadership of Steve Smith as the side showed glimpses of the 2015 ODI WC champion side.

All eyes will be on skipper Pat Cummins, the right arm speedster had hinted in one of his interviews that the side would rotate their skippers i.e. the likes of Smith & Carey would lead in between of the ODI WC 2023 to manage the workload. This kind of theory can actually surprise the opposition team and at the same time can backfire also which time will only tell.
