IND vs WI: Mohammad Kaif’s Harsh Words For Shubman Gill

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has shared his thoughts on current Indian captain Shubman Gill following India’s 2-1 ODI series victory over the West Indies. While India managed to clinch the series, Kaif believes Shubman Gill may not be entirely satisfied with the team’s performances, particularly in the bowling department.

The concern comes after the third ODI in New Chandigarh, played at the PCA Stadium, where India failed to defend a target of 363 runs. West Indies captain Shai Hope produced a brilliant unbeaten innings of 126 to guide his team to victory and prevent India from completing a clean sweep. Kaif has heavily criticised India’s bowling and raised questions over the team’s struggles against strong opponents such as Australia and England.

Shubman Gill hast lost against big teams- Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif was speaking on his YouTube channel. Mohammad Kaif pointed out Shubman Gill’s captaincy and how it might impact India’s chances of winning ICC ODI WC 2027. Mohammad Kaif stated that the issue of death bowling is a concern for India ahead of the marquee tournament. Kaif mentioned that Shubman Gill still has time ahead of the bumper ODI WC 2027 and can be a great leader in the tourney.

“As a captain in ODIs, Gill has lost against big teams. And these teams will challenge us in the World Cup. If he keeps his hand on his heart and speaks, I am sure he is not happy. He also spoke about death over bowling. I feel for him because he is a young captain and the time is tough. There are no issues in the batting. But when it comes to bowling, he does not have a lot to work with,” said Mohammad Kaif.

Concerns for Shubman Gill & Co

While India’s batting has continued to produce strong performances, Kaif’s comments highlight the importance of strengthening the bowling attack. With the next World Cup in sight, India will be hoping that their young pacers can develop into reliable options and provide Gill with greater balance and confidence in the team’s bowling resources.

Shubman Gill’s leadership will therefore be closely watched as India continues to experiment with their bowling combinations. The captain will need to strike a balance between giving younger players valuable international exposure and fielding an attack capable of handling high-pressure games. With several important ODI assignments likely to serve as preparation for the 2027 World Cup, the performances of India’s emerging pacers could play a crucial role in determining the team’s long-term plans.
