ENG vs SL : Harry Brook Excited To Work With Kevin Pietersen

Harry Brook certainly had been the toast of the cricketing world after his heroics in brutal batting against  Sri Lanka in the current T20I series and has risen up the ranks rapidly. With Harry Brook‘s fearsome batting, he garnered 30 runs in a single over en route to his 42-ball stunning century in the 1ST T20I. Harry Brook, with his innovative batting, showed a range of shots apart from taking doubles at will during his long stay at the crease, proving his Longetivity in the shorter format.

Harry Brook was in terrific form in the white-ball format until the second T20I vs Sri Lanka, when he was dismissed on 23 off 8 balls, having scored 292 runs without being dismissed starting from the T20I series vs India in T20Is. This could be a reason for his meteoric rise in form, transforming him into a power hitter in the middle order and setting the English team right as a skipper in the format, attributes newly appointed mentor Kevin Pietersen as a source of inspiration to him.

Harry Brook was ready to admit that he was watching Kevin Pietersen’s video before he went on the ground to score a memorable 114*, inclusive of 10 boundaries and 6 sixes, and spoke high regards regarding the impact Kevin Pietersen had on the youngsters when they grew up.

Kevin Pietersen, who has recently been appointed as the mentor with the England cricket team, was innovative in playing the game, introducing the switch hit to prominence. He was one batter in the circuit who was entertaining to watch in the pre-T20I era, and many youngsters, including Harry Brook, took inspiration from him and want to learn more from him as a specialist in power hitting.

“He was a phenomenal player. The way he accessed different areas of the ground made it really tricky to captain and bowl to, and I’m looking forward to having a lot of conversations about that,” said Harry Brook.
“I mentioned it to him earlier, and him trying to help me read different surfaces and use my skills to perform on that pitch as well. That’s not just for white-ball cricket; that’s for Test cricket as well. Hopefully he can have a big impact on my career,” he stated.

Harry Brook, who himself is keen on innovation when it comes to his batting, is keen to work with Kevin Pietersen closely and has begun working on his technique and strokeplay. He said in anticipation of the same :
“Obviously we haven’t had too much time together so far, but he’s a great figure to have in the changing room; the type of player he was, he looked at batting slightly differently, in a similar way to me as well. He always wants to try and look to put the bowlers under pressure, and I’m looking forward to working with him a lot more,” he added.
From England’s point of view, the rise of Harry Brook as a batter is a boon in white-ball cricket as his young age provides stability to the middle order and his hunger for improvement proved to be instrumental in the long run for the team. Further, Harry Brook, in association with Kevin Pietersen, would look to add more strokes to his arsenal which could be beneficial for England in the long run, keeping in mind the ODI World Cup 2027, and Harry Brook could emerge as a potential superstar of English cricket.
